If you've been on social media in the last five years, you've likely noticed the rise of influencers recommending everything from consumer goods to handy subscriptions. Finfluencers, however, are newer to the scene and vary widely in qualifications, expertise, and bias.
Recently, the Alberta Securities Commission (ASC) reprimanded a prominent finfluencer for promoting investments while receiving undisclosed payments from these companies. With 35% of Canadian retail investors relying on finfluencer recommendations, as reported by the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC), this highlights the critical need for transparency in financial promotions.
Just as you wouldn't take legal advice from an influencer, be cautious of finfluencers offering investment advice without understanding your unique circumstances, lacking proper licensing, and failing to disclose conflicts of interest.

If you know me, you know I love a good analogy, so the tale of the Tortoise and Hare as an example of smart investing is one that resonates.
Investing is a mix of long-term patience (the tortoise) and short-term action (the hare). Two fundamental principles make this clear: the power of time and the magic of compounding.

Like the author of this article, I too, am a big fan of Roger Federer and recently watched his documentary, Federer: Twelve Final Days, which follows him from the time he announces his retirement until he plays his final match. We see how difficult it is for him to let go of what has been his identity for most of his life.
While most of us aren't top level athletes, we experience the same emotional losses when transitioning to a new phase of life.
In the case of retirement, it's important to consider what you are retiring to, instead of focusing on what you are retiring from.
And for those tennis fans out there, I highly recommend this documentary.

A few years ago I bought a pizza 🍕 oven and embarked on the journey of becoming an amateur pizzaiolo. I expected a pretty short learning curve, but boy was I wrong!
