"The Coombs Country Candy chocolate factory has been busy all summer creating a new batch of Valley Vonka bars and starting Sept. 1, you’ll get your chance to find a golden ticket!

Valley Vonka was started by the Alberni Valley News in 2019 to support literacy and youth in our community. It is modelled after the story of W***y Wonka and the Chocolate Factory by children’s author Roald Dahl. Just like in the story, a golden ticket has been hidden in three of the 1,200 bars created exclusively for Valley Vonka by Coombs Country Candy. Bars are available now in local businesses for a suggested donation of just $4.

Don’t hoarde your chocolate bars: you only have a few weeks in September to search for the golden ticket and redeem it in the Alberni Valley News office. The deadline is Friday, Sept. 25. Tickets not discovered by that time won’t be eligible for prizes."

Gus joined R. Anderson in 2021 as a part-time, wildly enthusiastic office visitor alongside his “sister,” Mackenzie. Each week, he bursts through the door with uncontainable excitement—as though it’s his very first day on the job. Gussie enjoys playtime with friends, walks almost anywhere, and has a lot to say when he’s excited.

Once he finally tires out, he can be found napping under a desk or settling into full couch‑cuddle mode at home. His specialties include expert-level treat eating, dramatic sighing when he’s bored or being ignored, and world‑class neighbourhood surveillance from the front window.

Gus brings joy, laughter, and just the right amount of chaos to everyone around.

This past weekend Rob & Tracey along with teammates Spencer and Brayden....plus Maren & Vern along with their teammates Art and Tanya participated in the 2nd Annual Dennis Johnson Memorial Wacky Golf Tournament for the Alzheimers Society 💜⛳️

Lots of smiles and fun was had along with many entertaining fundraisers including our Plinko game

She’s like a zen master in fur form, radiating calm vibes and keeping us grounded when the numbers start to spin.
