It's not about earning more. It's about how your money is structured
Most people: paycheque → chequing → mortgage payment → whatever's left into savings
With an offset mortgage (offered by select Canadian lenders), your chequing, savings, and mortgage are combined into one account
Interest is calculated daily, so every dollar sitting in that account — including your paycheque — temporarily reduces the balance you're charged interest on
As income comes in, your balance drops right away; it only rises again as expenses come out
Result: more of your income works against your mortgage, which can reduce interest paid over time
Worth knowing: actual savings depend on your income, expenses, and how much surplus cash you typically hold — it won't look the same for everyone, and not all lenders offer this structure.

BoC Update: same rate, new risks.
The Bank of Canada held at 2.25% again, but behind that "no change" headline, there's a lot shifting: rising bond yields, new US tariffs, and a Q2 economy that bounced back stronger than expected.

Bank of Canada holds its key interest rate at 2.25%.
It's not flashy news, but it means welcome stability if you're buying a home, renewing, or refinancing.
The economy is showing encouraging signs, though uncertainty remains, which is exactly why today's headline rate shouldn't be the only thing driving your decision.
Every mortgage is different. The right move depends on your goals, timeline, and financial picture, not just what the Bank of Canada announced this morning.

Mortgage renewal coming up? Don’t just sign and move on.
* Your lender’s renewal rate may not be your best option
* You can compare rates from other lenders before renewing
* Even a small rate difference can add up over your term
* Renewal can also be a good time to review high-interest debt
* Start exploring your options before your renewal date
Don’t just renew. Take a moment to review.

Thinking about refinancing your mortgage? Before you make a move, know the numbers.
-Start with your goal: lower payments, access equity, or consolidate high-interest debt.
-Check your current mortgage balance and home value.
-Understand your potential prepayment penalty before breaking your mortgage.
-Compare rates, terms, and features instead of automatically staying with your current lender.
-Remember, you’ll need to re-qualify for the new mortgage.
-Review the appraisal, commitment letter, and closing costs before signing.
-Most importantly, make sure the potential savings outweigh the costs of refinancing.
Refinancing can be a smart move, but only when the numbers make sense for you.
