💡 Did You Receive a Tax Instalment Reminder?
If the CRA sends you a tax instalment letter, it may mean that your tax balance owing was more than $3,000 and that you may be required to make tax payments throughout the year.
Tax instalments help spread your tax payments over the year rather than paying one large amount at tax time. Think of them as being similar to the taxes deducted from an employee's paycheque.
📅 Tax Instalment Due Dates
✔️ March 15
✔️ June 15
✔️ September 15
✔️ December 15
Understanding your instalment requirements can help you avoid unexpected interest charges and stay on top of your tax obligations.
📞 If you have questions about a tax instalment letter, contact your local Prairie Strong office for more information.

🎓 Tuition Tax Credits: A Benefit for Students and Families
Did you know that unused tuition tax credits may be transferred to a parent or grandparent?
If a student does not need all of their eligible tuition tax credits to reduce their own taxes, they may be able to transfer up to $5,000 of eligible tuition amounts to a parent or grandparent in the same tax year (subject to certain conditions).
📚 If your child or grandchild is attending post-secondary school, be sure to keep their T2202 Tuition and Enrolment Certificate when it's time to file taxes.
A little planning today could help your family save at tax time!

🎓💰 Give Your Child’s Future a Head Start!
Did you know that you can receive government grants to help save for your child’s education?
A Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) is a smart way to build savings for post-secondary education. When you contribute, the Government of Canada may add 20% to your contributions through the Canada Education Savings Grant (CESG), helping your savings grow even faster.
RESP funds can be used for a variety of educational pathways, including:
✅ University
✅ College
✅ Trade Schools
✅ Apprenticeships
✅ Many Vocational and Private Institutions
As your children head back to school this fall, consider investing in their long-term future. Starting an RESP today could make a significant difference tomorrow.
Have questions about RESPs or education savings? Contact your local Prairie Strong office—we’re here to help!

💼 Self-Employed Expenses 💼
There is a common misconception that your business must be incorporated to claim expenses or deductions — but that’s not true. Even self-employed individuals and sole proprietors may claim eligible business expenses.
Whether your business is incorporated or not, many costs incurred to earn income can be deducted as a “cost of operating a business.” Expenses such as insurance, office supplies, and certain professional fees (to name a few) may help reduce your taxable income.
There are also expenses that are often overlooked — such as depreciation on buildings or equipment, repairs, and maintenance — that may qualify as business deductions.
If you own or operate a business and have questions about which expenses you may be eligible to claim, contact your local Prairie Strong office today.

🎓 What is the tuition tax credit?
It’s a non-refundable tax credit that lowers your tax payable if you paid tuition to an eligible educational institution.
✅ Who can claim it?
You can claim it if:
• You paid tuition fees for post-secondary education (college, university, or certain training programs)
• The school is recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency
💸 How it works
• You get a federal credit equal to 15% of eligible tuition fees
• Provinces (like Saskatchewan) also offer a provincial credit, which adds extra savings
👉 Example:
If you paid $5,000 in tuition → you get at least $750 in federal tax credits, plus provincial savings
📑 What counts as eligible tuition?
• Tuition fees over $100 per institution
• Fees paid to:
o Universities
o Colleges
o Certified training institutions
❌ What doesn’t count?
• Books and supplies
• Student loan interest (that’s a separate credit)
• Living expenses
• Transportation or parking
🔄 What if you don’t need the credit?
If you don’t owe enough tax to use it all, you can:
• Carry it forward to future years (no limit)
• Transfer up to $5,000 to:
o A parent or grandparent
o A spouse or common-law partner
🧾 What you need
• Your T2202 form (Tuition and Enrolment Certificate) from your school
