First-Time Home Buyers’ Tax Credit.
1) The Home Buyers’ Tax Credit (HBTC) is a non-refundable tax credit you can claim when you buy your first home.
2) First-time home purchasers can get a tax rebate of up to $1,500.
The credit may be shared between you and your spouse or common-law partner, but the total amount claimed cannot exceed $10,000.
This is a non-refundable tax credit calculated at 15%. That means a maximum tax reduction of $1,500 (15% of $10,000). If your federal tax payable is less than $1,500, the credit will reduce your taxes only up to the amount you owe.
