Miigwech to everyone who helped make our Back to School Backpack Giveaway earlier this week such a success!

Our Developmental Support Services(DSS) team was happy to provide 200 backpacks, along with school supplies and snacks, to help students and families get ready for another school year.

A big Miigwech to our DSS team for organizing and putting everything together, and to all the families who came out.

To all of the students heading back to class, we wish you a safe, successful and exciting school year filled with learning, new experiences and great memories! 🎒📚✏️

Weechi-it-te-win Family Services is proud to host “Breaking Cycles” — Men’s and Women’s Wellness Gatherings this October in Fort Frances.

Join us for two days focused on wellness, healing, connection and moving forward together.

-Men’s Wellness Gathering: Wednesday, October 14

-Women’s Wellness Gathering: Thursday, October 15

-La Place Rendezvous, Fort Frances

-50 spots available for each gathering

There will also be an evening event on October 14 at 6:30 p.m., open to the public.

Gichi-Miigwech to Chief Jim Leonard II and Mayor Andrew Hallikas for providing opening remarks at yesterday’s annual Overdose Awareness Healing Walk, and to RRFN Elders Dorothy for beginning the gathering with an opening prayer and Art Hunter for rendering an opening song.

Yesterday’s Healing Walk was a collaborative effort spearheaded by Rainy River First Nations with collaboration from Binesiwag Center for Wellness, The United Native Friendship Centre, Giishkaandago’Ikwe Health Services, Gizhewaadiziwin Health Access Centre, Treaty Three Police Service, the Ontario Provincial Police. and Weechi-it-te-win Family Services.

Together, our organizations were proud to help bring community members together to remember those we have lost, support those who continue to struggle, reduce stigma, and raise awareness about the impact of drug overdose in our families and communities.

Miigwech to all of the Elders, Singers, speakers, walk participants, agency workers, volunteers, police officers, and community members who joined us and shared messages of hope, healing, remembrance, and support.

The strength of events like this comes from working together. Gichi-Miigwech to everyone who helped make this year’s Overdose Awareness Healing Walk possible.

Chi-Miigwech to the Treaty Three Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police for their continued support of the Overdose Awareness Healing Walk held today in Fort Frances.

Officers provided a safe es**rt for participants walking from the Sorting Gap Marina to the United Native Friendship Centre, leading the walk and safely closing intersections along the route.

We greatly appreciate their continued support and commitment to keeping Healing Walk participants safe.
