A few years ago if you told me I’d be sitting around talking about fertilizer, flowers, and lawn mowers as expenses for my accounting business… I probably would’ve laughed
But when you own a business, especially property, you start realizing pretty quickly how many expenses are tied directly to maintaining and operating it properly.
This spring alone we:
🌱 bought a lawn mower for the office property
🌸 redid the front entrance with flowers
🪑 added patio furniture outside the office
🚜 got a Gator so the younger guys could help maintain the yard
📐 paid for landscaping plans
🌿 and spent a small fortune on fertilizer
And no… this isn’t one of those “everything is a write-off” posts.
That’s actually the problem.
Most business owners either:
❌ try writing off things they shouldn’t OR
❌ miss legitimate deductions because nobody ever taught them properly
The CRA cares about one thing: Can you justify the business purpose?
That’s the difference between strategic tax planning and guessing.
Honestly, Chad’s favourite one was definitely the lawn mower 😂
If you’re a business owner and want to understand what you can ACTUALLY write off — and how to structure it properly — fill out the intake form below 👇

Stop overpaying yourself the wrong way.
If you own a corporation, how you pay yourself matters — and taking money out whenever you need it isn’t always the most strategic move.
For many incorporated business owners, the best tax outcome often comes from a thoughtful mix of salary, dividends, deductible expenses, and household planning.
A proper compensation strategy can help you:
Reduce personal income tax
Build CPP and RRSP contribution room
Maximize legitimate business deductions
Create more predictable income
Keep more money in your household overall
But there’s no one-size-fits-all answer.
Your ideal mix depends on your business profit, personal income needs, family structure, growth plans, and long-term goals.
Good tax planning is proactive — not reactive.
Ready to stop guessing and start paying yourself with strategy? Fill out our intake form and we’ll help build a plan that fits your business, income, and future goals.

Last week, I met with the creators from for a conversation I wish someone had with me years ago: how to actually treat your content like a business.
Here's the truth most creators aren't told early enough…
That brand deal? Income. That affiliate commission? Income. That gifted product sitting in your living room? It has a value too.
It's not about fear - it's about understanding the rules so you can finally use them in your favour. The creators who build something lasting aren't the ones earning the most. They're the ones who got intentional early: clean books, tracked income, money set aside, systems built before they needed them.
You don't have to wait until you "feel big enough."
Day one IS the right time.
If you're a creator who wants to grow your income the smart way - and stop leaving money on the table every tax season - this is exactly the conversation we should be having.
📩 Fill out the intake form in my bio, or book a consultation to set your finances up the right way.

There was a time when I wondered if I could truly have both.
A thriving business.
A growing family.
The flexibility to be present for the moments that matter most.
This week, standing in a beautiful peony field surrounded by the people I love most, I was reminded why I started this journey in the first place.
These photos aren’t just family photos.
They’re a snapshot of years of hard work, sacrifices, late nights, early mornings, calculated risks, and unwavering faith.
They’re proof that building a successful business doesn’t have to come at the expense of your family.
In fact, for me, family has always been the reason behind every business decision I’ve made.
When I started Balance, the goal was never just to build an accounting firm.
The goal was freedom.
Freedom to attend the school events.
Freedom to never miss a bedtime story.
Freedom to grow our family while continuing to grow our business.
Freedom to create a life that feels aligned with my values.
Today, as we prepare to welcome baby #5, I am more grateful than ever for what we’ve built.
Not because it’s perfect.
Not because it’s easy.
But because it was intentional.
Balance isn’t just the name of my company.
It’s the life I’m committed to creating.
A life where family, business, faith, and financial success can exist together.
To my husband, my children, my incredible team, and our amazing clients, thank you for being part of this journey.
Every milestone we celebrate is possible because of the support system around us.
And if there’s one thing I hope these photos remind you, it’s this:
You don’t have to choose between building a business and building a family.
With the right strategy, systems, and support, you can build both. 🤍🫶

Today, Sophia received her First Communion, a beautiful reminder that the strongest foundation we can give our children is a life rooted in Faith.
In a world that constantly pulls us in different directions, true balance comes from staying grounded in God’s love, grace, and purpose. Watching Sophia take this step in her journey reminds us that when Faith is at the center, everything else finds its place. ✨🤍🙏
