Paying your taxes owing doesn’t have to be complicated; here are your main options 👇
💻 1. Online payments (most recommended)
You can pay through your online banking, CRA My Payment (debit), pre-authorized debit, or even by credit card (through third-party providers).
✔ Fastest processing (typically within a few days)
✔ Less risk of delays or misapplied payments
✔ Ideal if you’re close to a deadline
🏦 2. In person at your bank
You can visit your bank or credit union and pay at the teller using a remittance voucher.
✔ Payment is considered made the same day
✔ Good option if you prefer in-person support
⚠️ Be sure to bring the original voucher, banks won’t accept copies.
✉️ 3. By cheque (mail to CRA)
You can mail a cheque payable to the Receiver General, along with your remittance voucher or account details.
⚠️ Slower processing (can take 10+ business days with mailing time) ()
⚠️ Higher risk of delays or errors if details are missing
🚫 Important: Not all payments can be made by cheque:
While many tax balances can be paid this way, some amounts either aren’t accepted by cheque or must be paid through other methods depending on the type of payment or government department.
In addition, the CRA strongly encourages electronic payments for faster, more secure processing, and to avoid mail delays.
💡 Bottom line:
If possible, go digital. It’s faster, safer, and gives you confirmation much sooner.

Quick tax myth:
Earning more does not mean all your income gets taxed at a higher rate.
Our system is tiered; like steps. As your income increases, only the portion in each new bracket is taxed at the higher rate.
That’s why I’m sharing the 2025 and 2026 Ontario + Federal Tax Brackets; to help you visualize how these “layers” actually work.
Knowing this can help you:
1. Plan income more strategically
2. Avoid common tax misconceptions
3. Make more informed financial decisions
Understanding the system is the first step to using it to your advantage.
