Tax Tip 5
Changes happening 1 July 2025 include
- Employee compulsory super increasing to 12%
- Minimum wage increasing by 3.5%
- ATO Interest no longer tax deductible
HELP debt repayments are also changing
- The minimum repayment threshold will increase from $54,435 to $67,000 in 2025-26.
- HELP repayments are calculated only on the income above the new $67,000 threshold rather than repayments being based on total annual income.

Tax Tip 4
Scan or tax photos of all tax invoices (these are different to receipts) as documents fade.
A receipt is proof of payment.
A Tax Invoice shows what was purchased, the date and who purchased it.
When being audited the ATO wants to see tax invoices.
Note
- If you are unsure, keep the tax invoice and give it to your accountant.
- The new $1k auto deduction doesn't start until 1 July 2026 so not the tax year we are in and not the one starting 1 July 2025.

Tax Tip 3 - Superannuation
For business
You only get a tax deduction for employee super once it has reached their fund.
This means 15 June is the last day that you can be confident that you will get a tax deduction for approving super payments to your super clearing house for this tax year.
Personally
The super cap to get a tax deduction is $30k less amounts contributed by your employer. (Plus unused from previous 5 years)
If you were planning to put money into super this and claim a tax deduction on it do it by 20 June to ensure it is processed in time.
Note - you will need to complete a form with your superfund to confirm you want to claim it as a tax deduction.

Tax Tip 2
Do you engage contractors? If yes, did you know
You only get a tax deduction for a payment you make to them if they have given you a valid Tax Invoice. If you do not have one you need to pay them 53% of the amount and pay the ATO 47% in withholding tax to be able to claim a tax deduction.
A valid Tax Invoice includes an ABN and other items described in the link below
