One more week left to file your personal tax return (T1)!

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) processes almost 30 million tax returns annually and so far this year more than 18 million have already been received.

That means about 12 million taxpayers still need to file their taxes for 2022 and even with a strike by federal employees, including those who work for CRA, the agency is NOT extending the tax filing deadline.

🚨Important🚨The Underused Housing Tax (UHT) is a new tax in Canada that came into effect on January 1, 2022. It is an annual tax of 1% on the ownership of vacant or underused housing. The tax applies to non-resident, non-Canadian property owners and in some cases Canadian owners.

For example, if you are a Canadian citizen that owns residential property in a corporation you are required to file the UHT.

There are significant penalties if an affected owner fails to file a UHT return by the April 30th, 2023, deadline.
