Nothing beats hearing this from a client. 🙌

When you’re running a trade, your time is best spent on the tools and winning the next job — not wrestling with the books at 9pm. That’s exactly what we take off your plate.

Thank you Giles for the kind words. Getting your books in order, payroll sorted and BAS handled so you can focus on growing the business — that’s the whole point. 💚

About to start your small business or just started?
Here are 5 important steps that to follow to get ir right.

1) Register your business ABN, business name and open your bank account so you start trading right.
2) Track your sales and expenses, pay for a proper accounting software and check your numbers monthly to ensure the business if giving you results.
3) Pay yourself a salary, even if a small amount each week but set it on direct bit and never skip it.
4) Open a savings account and transfer money to it monthly so at the end of the year you have savings and or tax money ready and you are never caught off guard.
5) If you feel your business has taken off and you are now drawing in paperwork and feel lost, hire a bookkeeper to take that pressure of your back and get you on track for business growth.

Cash is king. 👑

You can be booked out for months and still be stressed about money — because profit on paper and cash in the bank are two very different things.

A house without a foundation looks fine until the first big storm. Same with a business: it holds up right until an unexpected bill, a slow-paying client, or the quarterly BAS lands all at once.

Cashflow is what tells you the truth about your business. Not what you invoiced — what actually cleared.

Three things that make the difference for the trades and small businesses I work with:

🔨 Know what’s actually coming in vs. going out each week
🔨 Put money aside for tax before you spend it
🔨 Chase your debtors early — don’t let unpaid invoices pile up

Get the foundation right and everything you build on top of it stands.

the right way

Forget the vanity numbers. Here’s what actually tells you you’re winning 👇

1. Profit is growing faster than revenue 📈
Anyone can grow turnover — just drop your prices and take every job going. But revenue is vanity, profit is sanity. When your turnover goes up 10% and your profit goes up 15%, THAT’S the win. You’re keeping more of what you earn, not just working harder for the same result.

2. You’ve got cash in the bank that isn’t spoken for 🏦
Not the GST you owe. Not next week’s wages. A genuine buffer that’s just yours. That reserve is the difference between surviving a slow month and panicking over one late-paying customer.

3. Your money comes in predictably 📅
Feast one month, famine the next isn’t a rite of passage — it’s a problem to solve. When your debtors pay on terms and you can see cash coming weeks ahead, you can finally plan: to hire, to invest, to pay yourself without guilt.

None of these show up on a billboard. They show up in your books. And the books never lie. ✅

The habits I actually run my business on 👇

I don’t recommend things to my clients that I wouldn’t do myself. So here are 5 money habits I’ve built into MMB — the same ones I set up for the trades and small businesses I work with.

1️⃣ Auto-transfer for GST and PAYG every month. The money’s gone before I’m tempted to spend it.

2️⃣ Receipts into Xero the moment I spend — no shoebox, no scramble, no lost deductions at BAS time.

3️⃣ I read my own P&L monthly. Revenue up only counts if costs haven’t climbed with it.

4️⃣ I pay the ATO on time, every time. Interest and penalties are the most expensive (and most avoidable) money in your business.

5️⃣ I pay my own super. Owners skip it first and regret it most — pay yourself like you’d pay an employee.

None of these are complicated. They’re just consistent. And consistency is what keeps a business out of trouble.

The best time to sort your bookkeeping was the start of the financial year. The second best time is right now. ☕

If your receipts are still living in the ute, your Xero hasn’t been reconciled since who-knows-when, or “I’ll deal with it later” has quietly become your BAS strategy — this one’s for you.

You don’t need to have it all perfect. You just need to start.

any small business on the Northern Beaches — I’m here to take the bookkeeping off your plate so you can get back to the work you actually love.

Your profit and loss statement is not just a report for the accountant. It’s your business talking to you every single month.

Revenue is up, but the bank balance hasn’t moved. One expense line has been creeping for months and nobody’s questioned it. Wages have crept up as a percentage while your prices stayed still. And you only really look at it when someone asks for it at tax time, by which point it’s history rather than a decision you can still make.

None of these are dramatic. That’s exactly why they get missed.

If your numbers only make sense once a year, you’re running your business on hindsight. Let’s change that.

Send me a DM or an email and we’ll go through what yours is actually telling you.
