We insure our cars. We insure our homes. But what about the asset that makes everything else possible — our income?
In this conversation, Nick highlights a gap in the way many Australians think about protection: people are often quick to insure depreciating assets, yet income protection can be overlooked as part of the broader financial plan.
The key point is simple: without income, the house, the car and the lifestyle around them become much harder to maintain.
Good financial planning is not just about building wealth. It is also about protecting the ability to keep building it.
Thank you, Nick Chong , founder of Ardent Capital Group and Rateseeker for joining us on the podcast and sharing your insights.

Ryker Capital
We are a financial planning business based on family values and trust.
The first meeting shouldn't feel like a sales pitch.
It's an opportunity to show people how the business works, what you believe in, and who they'll actually be dealing with.
No product pushing. No hard sell.
Introduce the team. Explain the philosophy. Show them what the experience looks like.
When clients feel like they're being welcomed into the business rather than sold to, the relationship starts differently.
Sometimes trust begins simply by making someone feel like they're already part of the family.

One of the biggest misconceptions about financial advice is that it's only for people who are already wealthy.
Or that it's something you think about when retirement gets closer.
But financial planning isn't a final step.
It's a journey.
Advice can help at different stages of life, long before someone has built significant wealth or started thinking seriously about retirement.
The earlier people understand that, the easier it becomes to make better financial decisions along the way.

Referral partnerships can break down when the process feels like the end of one relationship and the beginning of another. Clients should not experience it that way.
At Ryker, our role isn’t to replace the broker. It’s to help brokers keep delivering value once a conversation moves beyond lending.
Want to see this process in action with your next client? Message us and we'll set it up together.
At the end of the day, most clients who seek advice want one answer. Am I going to be okay?
Unpacking their financials feels overwhelming, sometimes because it's genuinely messy, sometimes just because the language feels foreign. Keeping advice in plain language clients actually understand is half the job.
And there's another fear sitting underneath it all. Will I be judged for where I'm at?
The goal isn't to judge. It's to help someone put their head on the pillow at night and actually feel okay.

There's no time that's too early and no time that's too late to start getting advice.
General advice and formal advice aren't the same thing. You can give someone tips early on, general in nature, then review again the next year. It doesn't need to start as a full formal plan.
The real signal that it's time? When your financial decisions start impacting each other.
That's always a good question to sit with, whatever stage you're at.

Every legislative change creates a second wave. Not just new rules. New client questions.
Over the coming months, brokers may begin hearing more client questions about superannuation, investment structures and long-term financial strategy.
That doesn’t mean every broker needs to become an expert in every area. But recognising when a lending conversation becomes a broader financial conversation is becoming an increasingly valuable skill.

These five triggers show up consistently in broker-client conversations. Spotting them early is one of the highest-value things you can do for a client.
If one of these sounds like a client you're working with right now, that's worth a quick conversation. Message us and we'll help you think it through.
Higher interest rates aren't designed to make life harder.
They're designed to make people spend less.
The Reserve Bank has two key objectives: keep inflation under control and support full employment.
Its main tool? Interest rates.
By slowing demand, the RBA hopes to ease price pressures and bring inflation back within its target range.
It's not a perfect system. But that's how monetary policy works.
Our thanks to David Boyle from Ascalon Capital for joining us on the podcast and helping unpack some of today's biggest market questions.
