R U OK? 💛
We’re OK. In fact, August 2026 was TidyTax’s busiest month on record, so today we’re slowing down for a team coffee, a catch-up and a proper conversation. ☕💛
We feel fortunate to spend our days helping people with their tax, business and loans. But behind every tax return, every business and every busy working day, there’s a person.
Sometimes the most valuable conversation has nothing to do with numbers.
A simple “Are you OK?” can make a bigger difference than we realise.
Today is a good reminder to check in with your team, your clients, your friends and your family. Ask the question, make time for the conversation and genuinely listen.
From the TidyTax team, we’re OK. Are you OK? 💛

Most business owners know they have money coming in and going out.
But they often mix up Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
Here’s the simple way to remember it:
Accounts Payable = Money going out
This is what your business owes to suppliers, vendors or service providers.
It is a liability because the business still needs to pay it.
Accounts Receivable = Money coming in
This is what customers owe your business for goods or services already provided.
It is an asset because the business expects to collect it.
Why does this matter?
Because AP and AR directly impact cash flow, working capital, liquidity and how smoothly your business runs.
If you don’t manage them properly, your business can look profitable on paper but still feel tight on cash.
The key lesson:
AP tells you what you owe.
AR tells you what others owe you.
Managing both well is one of the simplest ways to improve cash discipline and make better business decisions.
At TidyTax, we help business owners with bookkeeping, BAS, financial statements, tax returns, business structuring and loan-ready financials.

Most business owners don’t hate numbers.
They just haven’t been shown how to read them properly.
Here’s a simple way to remember the difference:
Balance Sheet = Snapshot
It shows what your business owns, what it owes, and what belongs to the owners at one point in time.
Income Statement = Story
It shows what happened during the year. Sales came in. Expenses went out. Profit or loss is what remains.
The Balance Sheet tells you about strength.
Cash position. Debts. Assets. Equity. How stable the business really is.
The Income Statement tells you about performance.
Revenue. Margins. Expenses. Profitability. Whether the business is actually making money.
Two formulas worth knowing:
Assets − Liabilities = Equity
Revenue − Expenses = Net Income
When you understand these two reports, you stop guessing and start making decisions with confidence.
At TidyTax, we help business owners with bookkeeping, financial statements, BAS, tax returns, business structuring and loan-ready financials.

Most finance concepts sound harder than they really are.
CapEx and OpEx are a perfect example.
CapEx = building for the future
Money spent on long-term assets that help the business grow over time.
Think:
• equipment
• machinery
• vehicles
• office fit-outs
• multi-year software
• property improvements
These costs usually sit on the Balance Sheet first and may be depreciated over time.
OpEx = keeping the business running
Day-to-day costs needed to operate the business.
Think:
• wages
• rent
• subscriptions
• advertising
• office expenses
• repairs and maintenance
These usually hit the Profit & Loss as business expenses.
Why does this matter?
Because the way you spend money affects your tax position, cash flow, profit reporting, asset value and even your borrowing capacity.
A business can be profitable on paper but tight on cash.
Or it can spend heavily on assets now to build long-term value later.
The key is knowing the difference, planning the timing and recording it correctly.
At TidyTax, we help business owners with bookkeeping, BAS, tax returns, financial statements, business structuring and loan-ready financials so your numbers are clean, compliant and useful for decision-making.
