One of the best ways to future-proof your wealth is to build flexibility into your financial plan. That means having a strategy that can adapt as your circumstances, the economy and legislation evolve.

For many, this includes regularly reviewing areas such as:

✅ Superannuation
✅ Investment structures
✅ Asset allocation
✅ Cash flow
✅ Estate planning.

Did you know?

Tax is an important part of financial planning, but it should rarely be the reason you make an investment.

A strategy designed solely around tax concessions can quickly lose its effectiveness if legislation changes. Instead, your financial decisions should be guided by your long-term objectives, with tax considered as one piece of the bigger picture.

How to future-proof your wealth in a changing tax environment 25/08/2026

One thing is certain when it comes to tax legislation - it won't stand still.

Over the years we've seen governments introduce new rules, amend existing concessions and reshape the way you invest and plan for retirement. While these changes can create uncertainty, they don't have to derail your long-term financial goals. The most successful financial strategies aren't built around today's tax rules. They're built to adapt as those rules evolve.

The kids have moved out. Your super window just opened.

If your budget suddenly has more breathing room, it's a good time to look at super. From 1 July 2026, the concessional cap rose to $32,500 and the non-concessional cap to $130,000 and carry-forward rules may let you contribute even more if you haven't maxed out in past years.

Also worth knowing: Division 296 now adds extra tax on earnings for balances above $3 million. Most people won't be affected, but if you've built significant wealth, it's worth checking where you sit.

Having wealth and having access to it aren't always the same thing.

You can have substantial wealth tied up in property, but that doesn't necessarily mean you have the flexibility to access it when you need it.

As retirement gets closer, it's worth thinking about not just what you own, but how and when those assets can support your lifestyle.

A tax refund can feel like extra money. But it’s not really extra, it’s money that was already yours.

So rather than simply spending it, consider what it could do for you instead. Paying down debt, investing, adding to super or strengthening your cash reserves could all be worth considering, depending on your circumstances.

If property is a big part of your wealth strategy, recent changes to SMSF borrowing are worth understanding.

The new rules restrict SMSF borrowing for residential property, making it even more important to consider how your super and other investments fit into your longer-term plans.

Your retirement strategy doesn't need to rely on one asset class. It's about building the right mix for the future you want.

Sometimes new legislation presents an opportunity to refine your financial strategy rather than rebuild it from scratch.

Taking the time to understand what the new negative gearing rules mean for your individual situation can help ensure your plans continue to support the future you're working towards.

The best decisions are based on your own circumstances, not the headlines. If you'd like to review your retirement strategy, a Sciacca's Financial Planner is here to help.
