Got questions about AML? We can answer them.

Most firms have read the guidance by now. The real risk is applying it — does this specific thing you do every week actually trigger the obligation? Miss a designated service and your due diligence has a gap in it. Treat something as designated when it isn't, and you're burning time on clients who don't need it.
This session is six days out, and it's built to close exactly that gap.
✅ Which ASIC agent activities are designated services?
✅ Does a registered office change trigger due diligence on hundreds of clients?
✅ Are trust distribution minutes or deed variations designated services?
✅ Who has to register, and what if you missed 29 July?
✅ Do you risk rate your whole client base, or only some clients?
Everyone who attends gets the technical paper, a one-page decision table covering thirty activities, a designated service register template, and an annual review checklist.

The director penalty regime now reaches across PAYG withholding, superannuation guarantee charge and GST. A wide net of company liabilities that can attach to a director personally — and most of your clients won't realise how exposed they are until it matters.
Over two sessions, Jo-anne Hotston takes you through how the regime works and what directors can actually rely on.
There's still time to register.
We'll cover:
✅ What liabilities are caught under the regime
✅ When the lock-out rule applies
✅ What new directors need to do to protect themselves
✅ How to deal with a director penalty notice (hint — don't ignore it and hope it goes away)
✅ Defences available to directors

✅ Campaign copy — the full six-touch campaign, written and ready to send
✅ Seminar run sheet — for running it in person

✅ Client handouts — property position worksheet and the seven decisions one-pager
✅ The Adviser's Playbook — the technical spine, practitioner use only
✅ The model — six scenarios, every assumption live
✅ Engagement letter and scope template
✅ Filling the Room — how to grow your client base with a property seminar, presented by Peter Johnson
🎓 1 CPD hour — practice management
Present it under your own brand. Fill the room from your own client list. Scope what follows.

AML compliance isn't hard because the concepts are complicated — it's hard because applying them to a specific file rarely has a clean answer.
Is a deed variation a designated service? Depends. Does a screening hit that isn't your client need to go on file? Depends how you document it. Most of the difficulty isn't the framework — it's the judgment calls sitting on top of it.
That's what this session is for. No regime recap, just direct answers to the questions we're actually being asked.
Today is also the last day to pre-submit your own question for the session — slides are built around what registrants are asking.
✅ Which ASIC agent activities are designated services?
✅ When you set up a company and a family trust, who's your customer?
✅ Do you risk rate your whole client base, or only some clients?
✅ How much can you discuss before the restructuring obligation attaches?
✅ Is there really a three-year transition period?
Everyone who attends gets the technical paper, a one-page decision table covering thirty activities, a designated service register template, and an annual review checklist.

If business real property feels harder than it should be, that's not you.
The ATO's ruling runs past 70 pages, and most of it sits on the awkward cases. There's an example where a B&B qualifies, and another where a B&B run slightly differently doesn't.
That matters more now. Since 10 August 2026, SMSF borrowing is restricted to business real property — so one difficult definition decides whether a client can borrow at all. Zoning doesn't settle it. Neither does whether the property looks commercial.
Peter Johnson works through the borderline cases directly, so the reasoning holds up when the facts get untidy.
We'll cover:
✅ What qualifies as business real property under SMSFR 2009/1 — and what doesn't
✅ The "wholly and exclusively" test explained simply
✅ When related party transactions are actually allowed
✅ Mixed-use and borderline scenarios (residential, primary production, vacant land)
✅ Property investment vs carrying on a business — critical differences
✅ Common traps, ATO risk areas, and how to stay compliant
