A normal day running a small accounting firm.
Behind every spreadsheet, deadline, and client call is a team figuring things out, solving problems, sharing a few laughs, and occasionally wondering where the day went. 😅
It’s the kind of work that rarely makes it to Instagram - but it’s where the real stories happen.
Follow along for more days at the office, beyond the tax-season chaos.

Celebrating you today, Shammani! Happy Birthday!

From the team at Let's Talk Numbers — thank you for everything you bring to the table (and yes, we mean the cake table too 😄).
Here is to another year of great work, good laughs, and even better pastries.
Happy birthday, Shammani.

You would be surprised how often I open up a new client's financials and find this sitting there.
It's called a debit loan account. Somewhere along the way, money left the business for something personal and instead of running it through wages or a dividend, it just got tucked away as a "loan."
Looks harmless on paper. But the ATO has a specific rule for this (Division 7A) and if that loan isn't structured properly or repaid on time, it can turn into an unfranked dividend in your hands. That's a tax bill you weren't expecting, sometimes years down the track.
If there's a loan account on your balance sheet you can't quite explain, that's worth a conversation before it becomes a problem.

These aren't hypothetical. I've seen every single one of these cost someone real money, usually in year one or two, when nobody's watching closely enough. Save this before you need it.

Moving to Australia is already a big change. Don’t make your finances harder than they need to be.

Ask questions. Get help. Make informed decisions.

You don’t get extra points for doing it the hard way.

Nepal is going through something devastating right now. Flash floods have torn through communities, and so many families are still searching for missing loved ones.

Any kind of help makes a difference. Donations can be made to Nepal's Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund.

Sending love and strength to everyone in Nepal, and everyone with family there.

Revenue looks good on paper. But these are the 3 numbers that actually tell you if your business is healthy: your break-even point, your real profit margin (not just revenue), and how much to set aside for tax before you spend a dollar of it. Know these, and you're running the business, not just watching it run you.

Refinanced your home to invest? There's a good chance you're missing out on a deduction you didn't even know existed. 👀

The big settlement loan gets all the attention. The smaller equity loan you pulled out for the deposit? That one quietly gets forgotten, deduction and all.
If you've ever used equity from your home to invest, it's worth a second look at your last return. Send me a message and I'll tell you if you've missed it.

Asked my son what I actually do for work. Recorded his answer before I could talk him out of it.

Tag someone whose kid has no idea what they do at work. 😂
