Happy Father's Day.

To all the dads, grandfathers, stepdads and father figures who support, motivate and teach those around them.

Much of what we learn about work, life, and doing the right thing comes from those who lead by example. Hard work, integrity, and showing up when it counts- these lessons stick with us.

To all the dads juggling work, family and everything else, thanks for your support, encouragement, wisdom and care every day. From all of us at Bentleys Tasmania, happy Father's Day.

What's the best advice your dad or a father figure has given you?

Getting business valuations wrong can mean missed chances, planning mistakes, or expecting things that just aren't realistic. Knowing what your business is really worth is about more than just a number.

Getting business valuations wrong can mean missed chances, planning mistakes, or expecting things that just aren't realistic.

Here are five common myths we hear from business owners.

A business might look profitable on paper but still run into problems.

That’s why cash flow gets so much attention from valuers. They're looking at questions like:
• Does the business consistently generate cash?
• Can it support future growth?
• Does it have sufficient working capital?
• Are earnings sustainable?

Good cash flow usually means a stronger, more stable business. It can also make a big difference to your business’s value.

Key tax and superannuation deadlines are coming up on 28 August 2026.

If you pay contractors or subcontractors within industries such as building and construction, cleaning, courier or road freight, IT, or security and surveillance, you might need to lodge a Taxable Payments Annual Report (TPAR). This helps the ATO keep track of payments to contractors.

If you missed the deadline for paying employee superannuation, you may also need to lodge and pay your Quarter 4 (1 April to 30 June) Superannuation Guarantee Charge (SGC) statement.

Now’s a good time to check your obligations and prevent any last-minute rush. Not sure what applies to your business, or could use help getting your obligations in order? Bentleys is here to help.

It's much more than revenue and profit.

A business valuation covers more than just the numbers. It looks at things like cash flow, assets, growth potential, customer relationships, systems, risks, and what your business could earn in the future.

That's because two businesses with similar turnover can have very different values.

What really sets businesses apart are the things behind the numbers.

If you understand these drivers, you can spot risks, find new opportunities, improve how your business runs, and make better decisions.

A valuation isn't just about what your business is worth right now. It's also about what could change its value in the future.

Did you know that things like relying on a few big customers, depending on one key person, or not having your processes written down can all affect what your business is worth?

A business valuation can help you spot these risks and see how they could affect your business’s value now and in the future.

Sometimes, the most important question isn’t just: "What is my business worth?"

It's: "What's preventing it from being worth more?"

There is a tax and reporting obligation that falls due on 21 August 2026 for businesses. Checking your requirements now can help you avoid last-minute pressure, penalties, or interest.
If you're unsure what needs to be lodged, review your compliance requirements now and ensure everything is on track before the due date. Early preparation also allows time to address any outstanding matters before lodgement.

When's the best time to understand what your business is worth?

Before you need to.

Thinking about growing your business, changing owners, or selling in the future? Knowing your business value early gives you more time to plan, improve results, and make confident decisions.

Good business decisions come from having clear information, not guessing.

When you hear 'valuation,' you probably think about selling your business.

But getting a valuation can be just as useful long before you ever think about selling. A valuation can help with planning, succession, partnership changes, managing risk, and making growth decisions. The earlier you know what drives value in your business, the more time you have to make improvements.
