The ATO is using increasingly sophisticated data matching to identify discrepancies and detect non-compliance. Information from banks, employers, online platforms, and other third parties is used to verify reported income and business activity.
Avoid audits, penalties, and unnecessary stress by staying on top of your tax and super obligations.

Scam Alert: Fake ATO Appointment Emails

A new email scam is circulating that impersonates the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). The email claims a phone appointment has been scheduled and encourages recipients to open an attachment to access services or reschedule.

The attachment may lead to a fake myGov login page designed to steal usernames, passwords, and other personal information.

The ATO will never:

✅Send attachments containing links to myGov sign-in pages

✅Ask people to access ATO services through unsolicited email links

✅Direct users to login pages outside official myGov or ATO websites

✅Request myGov usernames, passwords, or security codes via email

If you receive an email like this, do not click any links or open attachments. Access myGov or ATO services only through their official websites.

🔒 Stay alert and help protect yourself and others from cyber scams.

The recent CGT legislation marks a significant change for holders of pre-20 September 1985 assets.

Traditionally exempt from Capital Gains Tax, these assets will now be brought into the CGT regime for future gains accrued from 1 July 2027, while gains accumulated up to that date remain exempt under transitional arrangements.

Asset owners should review their holdings and obtain appropriate valuations to understand the potential tax implications.
