Two businesses can earn the same revenue and have completely different financial outcomes.
That's because revenue alone doesn't determine the financial health of a business. Cash flow does.
Cash-rich business:
- Knows its numbers
- Plans ahead
- Monitors cash flow
- Makes data driven decisions
Cash-poor business:
- Delays important decisions
- Doesn't review financial reports
- Falls behind on bookkeeping
- Doesn't know where the money is going

Balances in accounts like Uncategorised Income, Uncategorised Expense or Uncategorised Asset usually mean there's a transaction that needs your attention.
Here's what to do:
- Run the Account Transactions report for the uncategorised account.
- Review each transaction to identify the correct customer, supplier or bank activity.
- Recode the transaction to the correct income, expense, asset, liability or equity account.
- Reconcile your bank account and review your financial reports to make sure everything is accurate.
These issues are more common than you think, and they can affect your Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and the accuracy of your tax return.
That's why it's important to review and clean up your books regularly.

What each section means:
Your notice shows your taxable income, tax payable, credits already applied and whether you’ll receive a refund or owe money.
When to expect it:
The ATO generally processes online tax returns within two weeks, although some returns may take longer.
What to do if there’s a discrepancy:
Compare the notice with your lodged tax return. If something looks incorrect, contact your registered tax agent or the ATO.
You may need to amend the return or lodge an objection.

How do I qualify for a business loan?
Lenders will look at several factors when assessing your business loan application.
This typically includes your credit history, how long you've been in business, your revenue and cash flow, any existing debts and whether your business can comfortably afford the loan repayments.
How much can I borrow?
The amount will depend on your business income, cash flow, current debts, credit history and the lender’s requirements.
What documents will I need?
Most lenders may ask for:
- Profit and loss statements
- Balance sheets
- Business tax returns
- BAS statements
- Business bank statements
- Cash flow forecasts
Having accurate, up-to-date financial records can make the application process much easier and may improve your chances of approval.
Thinking about applying for a business loan? Let us help you get your books organised and your financial reports lender ready.
