As we wrap up 2025, I just wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and thank you for the trust and support over the past year.
It’s been a challenging year for many small businesses - a soft economy, rising costs, a rapidly evolving technological landscape, and increasing compliance requirements. I’ve seen firsthand how tough it’s been, and I genuinely admire the resilience and determination of my clients.
Looking ahead to 2026, my focus remains the same: being proactive, helping you stay on top of compliance, manage tax effectively, and supporting your business as it continues to grow in what looks to be another unpredictable year.
For those taking some well-earned time off over the festive season - enjoy the break, switch off where you can, and soak up the time with friends and family. And for those who are still working through this period, please stay safe and look after yourselves.
A little throwback to finish off - this was our very first attempt at building a snowman at Mount Buller, built with my two boys, Ethan and Elijah. Not perfect, but we were pretty proud of it at the time!
Wishing you all a safe, restful and happy Christmas. I look forward to working with you again in 2026.

A thoughtful surprise arrived this week - a bottle of Shiraz and a kind note from a client I’ve had the pleasure of working with for a few years now.
I don’t do the work for gestures like this, but it’s always appreciated when someone takes the time to say thank you.
At R&A Tax, the way we work is simple: be thorough, act with integrity, and never cut corners - EVERY. SINGLE. JOB - big or small.

HECS: ATO to Start Recrediting Excess Indexation Amounts
The bill to change the annual indexation for study and training loans has finally passed Parliament.
Indexation will now be based on either the Consumer Price Index (CPI) or the Wage Price Index (WPI) – whichever is lower.
This change is backdated, taking effect from 1 June 2023.
The new indexation rates for the two previous years are:
- 3.2% for 1 June 2023 (reduced from 7.1%)
- 4% for 1 June 2024 (reduced from 4.7%).
What you need to do? Nothing. The ATO is currently recrediting excess indexation amounts directly to your loan.
If your study or training loan account is in credit after the adjustment, this credit will be transferred to your Income Tax account. It will then be applied against other primary tax or Commonwealth debts (if applicable), with any remaining amount refunded to your nominated bank account.
Most people will see these credits on their accounts by the end of January 2025. Some credits may take longer to appear, depending on the complexity.
Please reach out if you have any questions or need assistance updating your financial institution account details.
