That's a wrap on a busy July and August! In July, we were delighted to welcome our valued clients for a special screening of Disney's Moana at our annual Keeping You In Touch event. We also had the pleasure of recognising several of our wonderful clients who have been part of the RI Alderley family for an incredible 25 years. We are truly grateful for the trust and loyalty you've shown us over the years, and we deeply value the long-term relationships we've built together.

In August, Kylie, Ming and I travelled to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, for the annual RI Conference. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with colleagues from across the network, share ideas and gain fresh perspectives. We heard from an impressive range of speakers, including a former CIA operative, economists, demographers, political analysts and futurists. These insights help us better understand the changing world around us and ensure we continue to provide informed guidance to our clients.

While we were there, we also took the opportunity to visit our dedicated support team at Aptium. Working closely with Aptium allows us to deliver efficient, high-quality service and support for you.

Finally, the greatest compliment we can receive is a referral to your friends and family. Thank you for your ongoing support and confidence in our team.

A massive congratulations to Mel for completing the first half of her Professional Year, and acing her Ethics Exam. She is now on the Financial Advisers Register as a Provisional Financial Adviser, and we couldn't be prouder! Mel will now be running meetings under Bert's supervision, and in a few months will be a fully licenced adviser. Well done, Mel!

Still working our way through it: there’s a lot to digest! Also, more training, listening to the economist of one of our fund managers. (Lucia is definitely not interested in the budget. She measures economic activity in walks and dog treats.)

Professional Development Week at RI Alderley

It’s been a big week of learning and development for the RI Alderley team!

Kylie and Bert were delighted to attend the H&B Wealth Symposium in Noosa last week, hearing from some of the brightest minds in the financial services industry. Speakers included Chief Economists, Chief Investment Officers, and Portfolio Managers from a range of leading investment managers—Ausbil, Schroders, Capital Group, KKR, Partners Group, MLC Insignia, Fidelity, and Pengana—many of whom manage the funds used within your portfolios. A special highlight was a session with renowned demographer Simon Kuestenmacher, who shared fascinating insights into the future of the Australian economy and broader global trends.

Not stopping there, Mel and Bert then attended a Vanguard Technical Session in Brisbane, where Joe Davis, Vanguard’s Global Chief Economist and Head of Investment Strategy Group, flew in from the United States to discuss global economic conditions and their implications for Australia.

Across both events, we gained valuable insights that will help shape and strengthen the advice we provide to you. Continuous learning is a core part of how we ensure our strategies remain informed, relevant, and aligned with the evolving economic landscape.

Lest we forget.

107 years ago today, the guns fell silent across the battlefields of Europe. The "war to end all wars" had ended. Earlier this year we were honoured to share the story of Sergeant Owen Patrick Kenny, a relative of one of our clients.

Owen signed up in Toowoomba in 1914, and his service number was 82. He served in Gallipoli and the Western Front, with the 3rd Field Ambulance, the same unit as Simpson and his Donkey . Owen survived the war.

All gave some, some gave all. We honour their sacrifice.

We are constantly amazed at the stories our clients have to tell, and we are privileged to listen to them. One of our clients, Don, recently showed Bert some documents about his father in law.

Owen Patrick Kenny was 19 years old in 1914, when war was declared. He enlisted with the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) in Toowoomba on the 22nd of August - just 18 days later. His AIF service number was 82! Owen served with the 3rd Field Ambulance, and served at Gallipoli and later the Western Front. He survived the war, and Don showed Bert maps of Gallipoli issued to Owen, Owen's medals, and letters of commendation. Owen was mentioned in despatches, and the letter proclaiming this was signed by Winston Churchill!

It was a deep honour to be able to see such historical documents first hand. Thank you so much, Don!
