The ATO stops taking credit cards after 30 November 2026.

If you pay your BAS or tax bills by card, or your ATO payment plan is linked to one, now is the time to act. Until then, you can still pay the ATO directly by card with no card fee.

Practical tip: if your payment plan runs off a credit card, switch it to direct debit from your bank account before the first instalment after 30 November. Otherwise it may fall into arrears.

After that, payment platforms let you keep earning points on tax bills. They charge a fee of roughly 1% to 2.4%, and fees change. It only stacks up if you redeem for flights or upgrades, not fuel or shopping.

One caution: company-owned points used for a family holiday can trigger a large tax bill. The setup matters.
