Last night was a well-earned celebration for several members of the Link Wealth team at Kaplan’s graduation ceremony in Melbourne.

A big congratulations to Marilena Romano on completing her Graduate Certificate, Luke McNamara and Carolyn Cranmer on completing their Graduate Diplomas, and Eric Ma AFP®, Daniel McCarthy, Udhav Jeetah and Candace Rogers on completing their Masters.

While not everyone could be there on the night, it was a good chance to celebrate what the group has achieved.

Balancing further study with the demands of working in financial advice takes real commitment, so congratulations to everyone on reaching this milestone.

If Link Wealth is going to become a household name, there’s plenty we can learn from brands that have already built that kind of recognition.

Today was a chance to do exactly that.

Josh and Bohden sat down with Sacha Zivanovic, Ro Fernandez and Justin Cilmi from Vanguard Australia.

A lot of the conversation came back to something we think about often at Link Wealth. How do you build a financial services brand that people genuinely know and trust?

It was a really valuable discussion and a good chance to hear how Vanguard approaches that challenge, while sharing some of what we’re working on at Link Wealth too.

We’re ambitious about where Link Wealth can go, and conversations like this give us plenty to think about as we keep building.

Thanks to Vanguard marketing team for making the time today, and a big thank you to Justin for organising the meeting.

Real client stories, real money lessons

In this episode of The Winner’s Playbook, Josh and Billy unpack five client scenarios that show how quickly the right strategy can change someone’s financial position.

They break down property decisions, why selling a poor-performing asset too early can sometimes backfire, and why getting a fresh view on the fundamentals matters before making a big move.

They also dive into TPD payouts, expat investing, super strategies for couples with an age gap, and how one client’s net worth grew by around $1 million in 12 months after getting clearer on their goals, structure and cash flow.

The big takeaway: good advice is not just about investments. It is about timing, structure, confidence and knowing which decisions actually move the needle.

The cost of one bad financial decision

Billy and Steve discuss how a single poor financial decision can have a significant impact over time, especially when it comes to tax structures and investments. Choosing the wrong structure when buying an asset can potentially cost tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars throughout the journey.

They explore why reviewing decisions regularly matters and how poor investment choices, outdated strategies, or failing to make adjustments can quietly impact wealth over a decade.

Has rentvesting been killed off?

Billy and Steve discuss whether recent property and tax changes have made rentvesting less attractive for Australians looking to build wealth. They explain why the strategy can still work for people who want to live in areas they may not be able to afford while investing in property elsewhere.

They explore how the approach has changed, why the numbers need to be carefully considered, and why rentvesting can still be a valuable strategy when aligned with the right goals.

The Complexity of TPD Insurance Claims

Josh and Billy discuss total and permanent disability (TPD) insurance and why making a claim is often more complicated than people expect. While many super funds include default TPD cover, proving eligibility can involve a detailed process, particularly when determining whether someone is unlikely to ever return to work.

They explore why TPD claims often involve grey areas, the challenges people face when navigating the process, and why getting the right guidance can make a significant difference.

The Super Tax Most People Don’t Know About

Josh and Billy discuss one of the lesser-known tax implications of superannuation when it comes to passing wealth on.

While super is often viewed as a tax-effective way to build retirement savings, it can potentially be taxed by up to 17% when passed to certain beneficiaries after death.

They break down why this matters for families with larger super balances and why understanding your super strategy is an important part of estate planning.

The Age Pension System Debate

Josh and Billy discuss one of the biggest debates around Australia’s age pension system: how the family home is treated under the current rules. They explore the difference between someone owning a multi-million-dollar home while receiving a pension compared to someone renting with significant superannuation but receiving little or no support.

They break down the role of means testing, how other countries approach pension systems, and whether the current treatment of the family home creates an imbalance.

The business tax traps that can get ugly fast

In this episode of The Winner’s Playbook, Josh sits down with Adam Jacobson, Accounting Principal of Link Wealth Accounting, to unpack what business owners need to know before small problems become expensive ones.

They break down company structures, family trusts, asset protection, GST registration, first-year cash flow, tax planning, and why getting the setup right from day one can save a lot of pain later.

They also dive into Division 7A loans, how business owners can accidentally end up owing money back to their company, and why delaying the issue can make it harder to fix.

The big takeaway: running a business is not just about making money. It is about structure, cash flow, tax planning and having the right advice around you before things get messy.
