Some people might have good intentions but aren’t always right.

Just because you trust them doesn’t mean you can trust their advice. Protect yourself by going to the right source.

If it’s your only job, or main source of income, yes, you should claim the tax-free threshold on your TFN declaration form.

This means, the first $18,200 you earn each year is tax free.

But it’s important to know, your employer might still take tax out of your pay if it looks like you’ll earn more than $18,200 (just to be safe).

If you don’t end up earning more than $18,200, you’ll get the tax back when you lodge your return.

If you have multiple jobs, only claim the tax-free threshold from ONE of them (usually the highest paying).

The tax-free threshold applies to your TOTAL income, not to each job separately. So, if job 1, job 2 and job 3 all think they’re your only employer, they might not withhold enough tax.

Real comment from a real follower.

We get why this can be confusing, so let’s break it down 👇

When it comes to claiming clothing, it's not about where you wear the item, it's about whether it's specifically for work.

Think of it this way: you might wear black pants to work, but that doesn't change what they are. As black pants are considered everyday clothing and can be worn outside of work too, they're considered a personal expense.

Put simply, CGT isn’t a separate tax. It’s the income tax you pay on the profit you make when you sell or dispose of an asset.

This includes things like:
🏠 rental properties
📉 shares
💻 crypto assets.

If you dispose of an asset (meaning, you stop owning it) a CGT event may occur. That’s when you’ll need to report a capital gain or capital loss in your tax return.

Capital gain: will increase the tax you need to pay.

Capital loss: can be used to offset other capital gains you make in the future. This will reduce the tax you need to pay, so don’t forget to report these!

Yes, at least! Sometimes even longer.

And depending on your circumstances, that could be 5 years from the date you:

💻 lodge your return
🔑 sell the property
👉 fully claim any carried forward losses.

Need a downloadable checklist of what those records are? Well, here you go 😉👇

Yes, you might!

If your business pays contractors for providing certain services on your behalf, you may need to lodge a Taxable payments annual report (TPAR).

It tells us who you paid and how much you paid them.

You may need to lodge if you paid contractors for:

🚧 building and construction
🧹 cleaning
🚚 courier and road freight
💻 IT
🛡️ surveillance, investigation or security.

Check to see if it applies to your business, and lodge online by 28 August.

If you sell shares and make a profit, you may need to pay tax.

So before you cash out, make sure you know your obligations 👇
