Following the Reserve Bank of Australia's Review of Merchant Card Payment Costs and Surcharging, the ATO will stop accepting credit cards as a payment method after 30 November 2026.

As a government agency, the ATO has decided it would not be appropriate for the cost of credit card merchant fees to be transferred to the community.

Alternative payment options for taxpayers are outlined at www.ato.gov.au/howtopay.

The ATO recognises that some taxpayers currently rely on credit card payments to manage their tax payments and understands this change may require some adjustments. The ATO is committed to helping taxpayers transition to alternative payment methods and will continue to support those experiencing financial hardship or other circumstances that make it difficult to meet their obligations.

Taxpayers who need extra support are encouraged to visit www.ato.gov.au/supporttolodgeandpay, or contact the ATO on 13 11 42 during business hours.

Under Payday Super legislation, the contribution generally needs to be received by the employee’s super fund within 7 business days of payday. The time taken by your payroll system, clearing house and super fund all need to be considered.

This is just one of the many areas businesses need to understand under the new Payday Super requirements.

10 core messages every employer should understand about Payday Super:

• What actually determines whether super is paid on time
• The 7 business day timeframe
• Qualifying Earnings and the new calculation requirements
• STP reporting changes
• Super obligations for certain contractors
• The closure of the ATO Small Business Superannuation Clearing House
• How SuperStream fits into the new process
• SMSF considerations
• Why clean payroll data matters
• Why having a process for rejected or delayed payments is essential

The biggest takeaway?

Payday Super is not simply about clicking PAY.

It is about having the right information, using the right process and checking that the contribution actually reaches the employee’s fund.

At IBBS, we want our customers to understand the changes, not just receive instructions when something goes wrong.

Good systems and good information can prevent a small payroll issue from becoming a much bigger compliance problem.

If you employ staff, save this post and make sure your Payday Super process has been checked.

🚨 PAYDAY SUPER: A LATE PAYMENT CAN COST YOUR BUSINESS MORE THAN YOU THINK

Payday Super isn't simply about remembering to pay super more often.

Since 1 July 2026, employers need to ensure super contributions reach their employees' super funds within the required timeframe — generally within 7 business days of payday.

And if a contribution is late, missed or incorrect, there can be consequences beyond simply making the payment.

💰 How much could it cost?

A late or unpaid super contribution can result in a Super Guarantee Charge (SGC).

The SGC can include:

🔹 The outstanding super shortfall
🔹 Notional earnings — calculated to account for the delay
🔹 An administrative fee of up to 60% of the relevant shortfall and notional earnings
🔹 Potential additional charges depending on the circumstances

And there is another important number business owners need to know:

⚠️ Up to 200%

A Part 7 penalty can apply where an employer fails to lodge an SGC statement or provide information when required.

That is very different from saying every late payment automatically attracts a 200% penalty — but it shows why ignoring a super problem can become extremely expensive.

💡 Here's where acting quickly matters

If you discover that a Payday Super payment was late or missed, don't just make the payment and move on.

The Payday Super rules provide for a Voluntary Disclosure Statement.

Where the requirements are met, making a valid voluntary disclosure can **reduce the administrative uplift component of the SGC.

And timing matters.

For example, under the ATO's current guidance, lodging a valid voluntary disclosure within the first 30 days after the relevant pay event can reduce the administrative uplift by 40 percentage points.

That can make a significant difference to the final liability.

📌 The important takeaway

If super is late:

1️⃣ Identify the affected pay event
2️⃣ Pay the outstanding super as quickly as possible
3️⃣ Confirm the contribution has actually reached the employee's fund
4️⃣ Determine whether a Voluntary Disclosure Statement is required/appropriate
5️⃣ Lodge the disclosure correctly and within the required timeframe
6️⃣ Keep clear records of what happened and how it was corrected

Don't assume that because the super has eventually been paid, the problem has disappeared.

🧠 Payday Super requires a process — not just a payment

Businesses need to have systems in place to monitor:

✔️ Payroll calculations
✔️ Super calculations
✔️ Payment dates
✔️ Clearing-house processing
✔️ Rejected or failed contributions
✔️ Employee fund details
✔️ Confirmation that contributions have been received
✔️ Corrective action when something goes wrong

At Integral Bookkeeping & Business Solutions (IBBS), we're helping businesses understand Payday Super and put practical processes in place to manage it.

Because getting payroll right isn't just about paying your employees. It's also about getting their super to the right place, at the right time, and knowing what to do when something goes wrong.

Business owners — have you checked what happens in your payroll system when a super payment is rejected or late?

It is much better to understand the process before you need it.

*Information current as at September 2026. General information only. Payday Super and SGC calculations can depend on the individual circumstances of each business and employee. Please refer to the ATO or your professional adviser for advice specific to your circumstances.*

💚 We really do have the best boss! 💚Apprication Post

This week, our staff meeting included something a little different — a **September Wellbeing Check-In** created by our boss, Lyndell.

And it got us thinking… **how lucky are we to work somewhere that genuinely cares about the people behind the work?**

At IBBS, Lyndell know how busy and demanding this industry can be, especially when EOFY rolls around. Lyndell makes a real effort to look after her team — not just by saying *“look after yourself”*, but by actually putting it into practice.

From our **wellness packs leading into EOFY**, to the thoughtful, hand picked Christmas gifts, and now this wellbeing check-in, there are little reminders throughout the year that our wellbeing matters too. 🌿

It’s easy in a busy workplace to focus on deadlines, clients, emails and getting the job done. Having someone who reminds you to pause, breathe, set boundaries and look after yourself makes a huge difference.

We’re very grateful to be part of a workplace where people matter just as much as the work we do. ❤️

Now we'd love to hear from you…

👇 What is something thoughtful your boss, manager or workplace has done that made you feel appreciated?

It could be something big, something small, or simply something that made a tough week a little easier.

Share it in the comments — let’s give some recognition to the great bosses and workplaces out there!💚

🎄 **Christmas, business, money… and a room full of great conversations!** 🎄

Yesterday’s Financial Mentorship workshop was one of those sessions where you could actually feel the energy in the room.

There were plenty of laughs, Christmas spirit, honest business stories, questions, ideas and those *“YES… I’ve been there too!”* moments that make a room full of business owners so valuable. ❤️

Because that’s what our Business Mentorship Program is about.

It’s not about sitting in a room listening to someone talk at you about numbers.

It’s about:
💰 Understanding your business finances
📊 Learning how to read and use your numbers
💡 Sharing ideas and practical solutions
🤝 Learning from other business owners
🎯 Making better decisions with confidence
🗣️ Having honest conversations about the things we sometimes don't know how to tackle

And most importantly… you don't have to figure it all out on your own.

We’re opening the next program in January 2027 and inviting business owners who want to become more confident, informed and in control of the financial side of their business.

If you’ve ever thought:

👉 *“I really should understand my numbers better.”*
👉 *“I know I’m making money… but where is it going?”*
👉 *“I wish I had someone to talk this through with.”*
👉 *“I want to make better business decisions this year.”*

…then this could be exactly what you’ve been looking for.

**Come for the numbers. Stay for the conversations, connections and confidence.** ❤️

📅 New program commencing January 2027
👥 Limited number - Small-group
💬 Practical, real-world discussions
☕ A supportive environment where questions are encouraged

These workshops covers more than your business figures and we invite other industry leaders to join our workshops to give our attendees a full coverage of important business matters.

If you’d like to find out more or reserve your place, send us a message.

Let’s make 2027 the year you stop feeling overwhelmed by your numbers and start using them to understand your business. 🚀

One of the biggest benefits of outsourcing your bookkeeping isn't simply having someone enter the numbers.

It's being able to **trust the numbers.**

As a business owner, you shouldn't have to:

❌ Double-check every transaction
❌ Chase your bookkeeper for information
❌ Wonder whether the bank has been reconciled
❌ Work out whether something has been missed
❌ Explain the same issue multiple times

You should be able to delegate the responsibility and know that someone experienced is taking care of it.

At IBBS, we believe good bookkeeping is about more than data entry.

It's about communication.

It's about asking questions.

It's about following up.

It's about knowing when something doesn't look right and flagging it.

And most importantly, it's about giving the business owner confidence that the job they have delegated is actually being done.

**Delegate the task. Keep the confidence.**
