“If I buy it, I can claim it.”

Not necessarily.

Just because something is a business expense doesn’t automatically mean it’s tax-deductible.

To generally claim a business expense, it needs to be genuinely related to earning your business income. Some expenses may also need to be apportioned if they have both business and personal use.

And then there are expenses with specific rules around when and how much you can claim.

Before you buy it for the business, ask: can I actually claim this?

If you're not sure, talk to your accountant before making the purchase.

What happens to your business if you can't trade for three months?

A fire, flood, storm or other unexpected event could force your business to close its doors temporarily.

But while you're unable to trade, the bills don't necessarily stop.

Rent, wages, loan repayments and other ongoing expenses can continue, even when your revenue doesn't.

Business interruption insurance can help protect your business against the financial impact of an unexpected interruption.

It’s worth knowing what’s covered before you need it.

Spring marks the start of a new season for growth. 🌱

As your plans change, is your home loan still working for you?

A new season is a good time to check whether your current loan, rate and repayments still suit where you’re heading.

Let’s make sure your home loan got the message.

It’s not always because people are bad with money.

Rent, mortgages, groceries, bills and everyday expenses can make it difficult to get ahead, even when you’re working hard and earning a decent income.

But having even a small financial buffer can make a big difference when an unexpected expense comes along.

The goal doesn’t have to be thousands of dollars overnight. Start where you are, build what you can, and make a plan that works for your circumstances.

Because financial security isn’t about having a huge bank balance. It’s about having a plan for what happens next.

When comparing policies, it’s easy to focus on the premium.

But what really matters is what you're getting for that premium.

What’s covered? What isn’t? What are the limits and exclusions? And would the policy give you the protection you actually need if something went wrong?

Because saving a little on your premium today could mean paying a lot more out of pocket later.

Insurance is about more than finding the lowest price. It’s about finding cover that makes sense for your circumstances.

It’s easy to put off checking your accounts, reviewing your spending or thinking about what’s coming up.

But staying on top of your finances doesn’t have to be complicated. A little awareness now can make a big difference to your financial confidence later.

Know where you stand. Then make a plan from there.

More money coming in doesn’t always mean more profit.

Revenue can be growing while expenses, wages and overheads grow with it. What matters is what’s actually left at the end of the day.

More sales are great. More profit is better.

Ever kept paying for something simply because you've already spent so much on it?

Our brains hate losing.
So instead of cutting our losses, we double down.

We keep:

🔹 The gym membership we haven't used in months.
🔹 The subscriptions we forgot to cancel.
🔹 The project that's already blown the budget.
🔹 The investment we're emotionally attached to.

But money you've already spent shouldn't decide what you do next.

Every dollar you spend from today onward is a new decision.

Sometimes the smartest financial move isn't pushing through.

It's stopping.

Because protecting your future is more important than justifying your past.

Splitting a purchase into smaller payments reduces the "pain of paying", making expensive purchases feel more affordable than they really are. Combined with the instant dopamine hit of buying something new, it's easy to spend more than you originally intended.

Before choosing to pay later, ask yourself:

Would I still buy this if I had to pay for it in full today?

A simple pause can help you avoid repayments piling up, unnecessary fees and financial stress down the track. Smart money habits aren't about never spending, they're about making purchases intentionally.

Financial decisions rarely exist in isolation.

Buying a property can affect your cash flow. A change in income may influence your borrowing capacity. Growing your business could mean reviewing your insurance. Planning for retirement might change the way you structure your finances today.

When your accountant, mortgage broker, financial planner and insurance broker work together, you're more likely to receive advice that considers the bigger picture, not just one piece of it.

Instead of managing separate conversations, you benefit from a coordinated approach where each decision supports your broader financial goals.

Whether you're building wealth, growing a business or planning for the future, having a team that communicates can help you make more informed decisions and avoid opportunities being overlooked.

At Tanti Financial Services, our specialists work together to provide advice that's connected, practical and tailored to your circumstances.
