🗣️ “I’ve started a second job. Am I going to pay more tax?”

This is one of the most common questions we hear.
The short answer: No, not simply because you have two jobs.

Your tax is calculated on your total income for the year, regardless of how many employers you have.

The biggest issue we see is people accidentally claiming the tax-free threshold from multiple employers, which can lead to an unexpected tax bill at tax time.

If you’ve recently started a second job, make sure you’ve completed your TFN declaration correctly and understand how the tax-free threshold works. 👉

Many Australians support charities and community organisations throughout the year, but not all contributions are tax deductible.

To claim a deduction, the donation generally needs to be:
✅ $2 or more
✅ Made to a registered Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR)
✅ Supported by a receipt or record

A common mistake is claiming fundraising event tickets, raffle tickets or auction purchases. Because you receive something in return, these are generally not deductible gifts.

Before lodging your tax return, take a moment to gather your donation receipts and ensure the organisation is registered as a DGR.

💭 Remember, while a tax deduction is nice, donating should always be about supporting a cause you care about, not getting a tax refund.

🗣️”Can I claim my work clothes?”

It’s one of the most common questions we receive each year.

The simple rule is that clothing must generally be either:
👉A compulsory uniform
👉Occupation-specific clothing
👉Protective clothing

Many people are surprised to learn that standard business attire, suits, dresses, black pants and black shoes are usually not deductible, even if they’re only worn to work.

If you’re claiming clothing expenses this tax season, make sure you understand the rules before lodging your return 👀

🚗 Can you claim your car on tax?
This is one of the most misunderstood deductions.

Many people assume they can claim the drive from home to work. In most cases, that’s a private expense and not deductible.

However, travel between workplaces, client visits, multiple job sites and other work-related trips may be claimable. 👀

The biggest mistake we see isn’t claiming too little, it’s claiming trips that aren’t deductible in the first place.

If you’re using your car for work, make sure you’re keeping the right records and understand which trips qualify. 👉👉

Profit looks great on paper.
Cash is what actually pays the bills.

It’s more common than you think 😅 .. profitable businesses under pressure because cash isn’t there when it’s needed.

Understand both, stay in control.
