I talk frequently with NFP CEO’s and a recurring topic is their frustration around the time they spend producing monthly financial reports for their board. Many NFP CEO’s are under pressure to produce monthly financial reports that are accurate and make sense. They spend so much time compiling the data from multiple sources into coherent reports that their board members can understand and rely on.

Not For profit organisations have always been a particular passion of mine. I love the underlying philosophical purpose behind them and the commitment that they show to the community they serve and how they help people.

For fifteen years I have been incredibly lucky to have been able to work with many board members and CEO’s of NFP’s and as such I have been able to tie together the common threads that they all seem to have when it comes to having transparency around what they need to see in the organisation's financial reports.

In fact, I have narrowed it down to four specific things..

1. They need financial reporting to be timely

2. They also need to know that the data is accurate

3. Multiple sources of data need to be streamlined

4. The reports need to be transparent

Now in theory this should all be pretty straightforward but, unfortunately in reality, a simple process can get quite complex.

Why does it become complex?

Well, often it’s because there are several people involved, multiple data sources to be harnessed and no set process to actually derive the data, prepare it into a coherent document, and then ultimately present it in a way that is easily translatable.

So, this is where my love for NFP’s really comes in. I Love to be able to help Board members and CEO”S get the RIGHT information, and the most ACCURATE information so that they have the TRUTH in front of them at every meeting to translate exactly how the financials tell the story of what is really happening in the organisation.

You see, this is very powerful. The ultimate mission of an NFP is to deliver their services to their community and the board’s responsibility is to ensure that the organisation is on track, delivering outcomes and is financially healthy.

So - the data is VITAL
