Does company liquidation clear a director’s personal liabilities? Not automatically.
Liquidation deals with the company’s affairs, but separate personal obligations may still need to be addressed. These can include:
👉 Personal guarantees for company loans, supplier accounts or leases
👉 Director penalties for certain unpaid company tax and superannuation obligations
👉 Outstanding amounts a director owes to the company
Depending on the circumstances, a liquidator may also pursue claims involving insolvent trading or breaches of directors’ duties.
Understanding both the company’s financial position and your personal exposure is an important part of planning the next steps.
