In a historic milestone, the iconic Sydney Opera House Concert Hall successfully hosted “Rhythms of Lanka”, a premier musical celebration designed to promote Sri Lankan culture and global tourism on 23 August 2026.

Presented by Lanka Events (a division of Yasiru Multimedia Pty Ltd) in association with TV Derana, the mega-concert served as a vital foreign currency earning project for Sri Lanka. Beyond its significant economic contributions, the event successfully spotlighted the island nation as a rich cultural destination to international audiences and the Australian diaspora.The grand production was made possible through the positive effort and visionary backing of Home Lands, the event's Main Sponsor. Home Lands provided the critical corporate patronage required to elevate Sri Lanka's finest contemporary talent onto one of the world's most prestigious stages.

The spectacular evening featured an elite lineup of Sri Lanka's most celebrated musical icons: Rookantha Gunathilaka, Kasun Kalhara, Kanchana Anuradhi, Chitral Somapala, and Janani Amathma. The artists were accompanied by a distinguished live orchestra under the expert musical direction of maestro Sugath Hettiarachchi. The entire visual essence of this historic evening was captured through official event photography covered by Sagara Lakmal De Mel.

Underscoring the event's diplomatic and community significance, Mr. Wishwanath Aponsu, the Deputy High Commissioner for Sri Lanka to Australia, attended the event, celebrating a memorable evening of music, heritage, and bilateral fellowship.

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Canberra facilitated a trade delegation from the Sri Lanka–Australia–New Zealand Business Council (SLANZBC) of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) to Canberra on 20 August 2026, meeting with parliamentarians, key government officials and institutions.
The delegation consisted of business personnel in Tech and AI, Martech, Venture Capital and Business Development, Fisheries, and Logistics. The visit aimed to revitalize trade partnerships, showcase emerging commercial opportunities in Sri Lanka, and deepen institutional ties between government, parliamentary, and business sectors across both countries.
The delegation engaged in a high-level roundtable meeting with members of the Federal Parliament. The discussion was led by Hon. Cassandra Fernando MP, Chair of the Australia-Sri Lanka Parliamentary Friendship Group, alongside Hon. Steve Georganas MP, Senator Andrew McLachlan CSC, and Hon. Matt Burnell MP. Discussions focused on fostering bilateral commercial linkages and leveraging diaspora networks conducive to two-way trade.
The delegation met with Mr. Bruce Soar, Assistant Secretary (Indian Ocean and South Asia Maritime Branch), and senior officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). DFAT officials provided a comprehensive presentation on Australia’s macro-economic outlook, highlighting strategic opportunities for Sri Lanka to expand its trade and investment relations with Australia. The delegation further met with Ms. Laura Phillips, Senior Adviser of the South Asia & Southeast Asia Section of the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade).
The CCC delegation also had the opportunity of meeting with Mr. Lachlan Smith, Deputy Director of Trade and International Affairs at the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), during their visit to Canberra.
The visit, which represents the first official delegation from Sri Lanka’s premier business chamber to the Australia in over 15 years, renewed engagement for future commercial partnerships between Sri Lanka and Australia.

Deputy Minister Chathuranga Abeysinghe Visits Custom Denning Facilities in Sydney

Hon. Chathuranga Abeysinghe, Deputy Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development of Sri Lanka, conducted an official tour of Custom Denning’s electric bus manufacturing facility in St Marys, Sydney on 17 August 2026.

The visit was aimed at observing cutting-edge zero-emission transit technology and discussing potential pathways for industrial collaboration, technology transfer, and advanced manufacturing capabilities.

Deputy Minister Abeysinghe was accompanied by Mr. Wishwanath Aponsu, Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka. The delegation was received by Custom Denning Managing Director Scott Dunn, Chief Operating Officer Daniel Bale, and Financial Controller Niro Bandara.

This engagement serves as a direct follow-up to the initial preliminary discussions facilitated by the Sri Lanka High Commission in Canberra during the recent official visit of Hon. Vijith Herath, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment & Tourism in June.

The engagement underscores growing diplomatic and trade interest between Sri Lanka and Australia.

The Sri Lanka Australia New Zealand Business Council of The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Canberra, will undertake a high-level visit to Canberra on Thursday, 20 August 2026.
