One thing I always think is important when talking about SMSFs is understanding the difference between what belongs to you personally and what belongs to the fund.
It sounds simple, but once you start looking at things like bank accounts, investments and other assets, understanding that separation becomes much more important.
That is why I wanted to create a video explaining what asset separation actually means, what types of assets it can apply to, why keeping them separate is part of SMSF compliance, and why being involved in decisions does not make fund assets personal assets.
The full video is available on our YouTube channel in both English and Spanish, where you can also explore more educational content about SMSFs, superannuation and compliance.

I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to share a little of my journey with BNI. ❤️
Taking a moment to reflect on the path that brought me here reminds me that our journeys are shaped by so much more than the goals we set for ourselves. They are shaped by the people we meet, the challenges we overcome, the opportunities we embrace and the lessons we carry with us.
Being part of BNI has been an important chapter in my journey, both personally and professionally. It has given me opportunities to grow, connect with others and continue learning along the way.
I’m grateful to be able to share a little of that story and, hopefully, encourage someone else who may be starting a new chapter of their own.

One of the most important things to understand about an SMSF is that the money held by the fund is not personal money.
It may seem like a simple distinction, but it has important implications for how the fund operates and how its assets are treated.
In this video, I explain why an SMSF is not a personal bank account, what keeping fund assets separate means in practice, and how reimbursements can work when fund money has been used.
Understanding the nature of fund money helps make many of the rules around SMSFs much clearer.
