Growth doesn’t always mean adding more.

More products. More people. More software. More processes.

Sometimes the better question is: what could we improve?

A product that isn’t performing as well as it could.
A process that takes far too long.
Supplier costs that have crept up.
Sales admin that is eating into your week.
Technology that could take some of the repetitive work off your plate.

The latest Australian Industry Outlook highlights product development and process improvement as key areas of focus for businesses in 2026.

For small business owners, that doesn’t necessarily mean a major strategy overhaul.

It might just mean taking a closer look at what you’re already doing and finding one or two things that could work better.

Swipe through for five areas worth putting under the microscope.

If you’re reviewing your strategy for the next quarter, we can help you make sense of the numbers, identify opportunities and work out where to focus.

It’s a big decision, and there’s no one-size-fits-all answer.

Buying can give you more control, protect you from future rent increases and give your business a valuable asset. But it also means a significant investment, loan repayments and the ongoing costs of owning a property.

Leasing can give you more flexibility and preserve cash for other areas of the business, without taking on the full responsibility of property ownership.

So, which makes more sense for your business?

It comes down to your financial position, cash flow, how long you plan to stay and what you want your business to look like in the years ahead.

Before making a decision this big, it’s worth looking beyond the purchase price or monthly rent and considering the bigger financial picture.

We can help you compare the costs, understand the impact on your cash flow and work through which option fits your business and your plans.

Having an ATO debt doesn’t necessarily mean your business is in trouble. There are options, and the earlier you understand your position, the more options you’re likely to have.

Depending on your circumstances, this might include setting up a payment plan, refinancing, restructuring or considering other options if the business is struggling to meet its debts.

The important thing is to keep your lodgements up to date and start the conversation early. Even if you can’t pay everything straight away, staying on top of your lodgements and making regular payments can help demonstrate that you’re actively managing the debt.

If you’re unsure what your ATO position means for your business, we’re always happy to have a chat and help you understand what your options are.

Buying or leasing? It’s not always an obvious decision.

When your business needs a new vehicle, piece of equipment or machinery, there are a few things to consider beyond the purchase price.

Buying can give you ownership and flexibility, while leasing can help spread the cost and preserve cash flow.

The right option will depend on your business, your current financial position and what your cash flow looks like.

Thinking about a big equipment purchase?
Don’t make the decision based on the price tag alone. We can help you look at the bigger picture, including your cash flow, financial position and ongoing costs.

One of the things we’ve been working on is how we can add more value for our clients.

For us, it’s not just about the numbers. We want to help you understand your business, make better decisions and feel more confident about running it.

We also know that money can be one of the biggest sources of worry for business owners. How much should I be putting aside for tax? Am I charging enough? What do I need to be thinking about next?

We don’t want you to only think about these things when there’s a deadline or a problem.

That’s one of the reasons we created the C & Co Business Hub. It gives our clients one easy place to find practical tools, resources and information to help them stay on top of their business.

From our Annual Calendar and Charge-Out Rate Calculator to practical guides, resources and useful information about AI and new technology.

We’ve had lots of clients sign up already and the feedback has been fantastic.

If you’re a C & Co client and haven’t signed up yet, it’s included as part of your plan and is well worth having a look around.

And if you’re not a C & Co client, this is just one of the ways we support our clients beyond the numbers.

If you're trading through a family trust and you've been seeing headlines about proposed tax changes, don't panic and start restructuring just yet.

The important word is proposed.

Before making any major decisions, we need to see the final legislation, when the changes will actually start and exactly who they will apply to.

So for now, our advice is simple:

Don't restructure your business based on a headline.

We'll continue monitoring the changes and, once there's more certainty, we'll look at what they actually mean for your individual circumstances.

If you're a Clinton & Co client and you're concerned about how the proposed changes might affect your business, you can book a chat with us through your usual online booking link.
