Card Surcharging Ban
From 1 October 2026, businesses will not be able to add a surcharge when customers pay by eftpos, Mastercard, Visa or American Express. If your business currently applies card surcharges, you may need to update your payment systems, pricing and customer information before the change begins.

Put simply, CGT isn’t a separate tax. It’s the income tax you pay on the profit you make when you sell or dispose of an asset.
This includes things like:
🏠 rental properties
📉 shares
💻 crypto assets.
If you dispose of an asset (meaning, you stop owning it) a CGT event may occur. That’s when you’ll need to report a capital gain or capital loss in your tax return.
Capital gain: will increase the tax you need to pay.
Capital loss: can be used to offset other capital gains you make in the future. This will reduce the tax you need to pay, so don’t forget to report these!
