The Federal Government has released draft legislation regarding the proposed changes to discretionary trusts.
Importantly, these changes are not yet law and remain subject to consultation and legislation.
In our latest update, we outline what the proposed fixed distribution election may mean for small businesses operating through discretionary trusts, and why careful planning will be important once the final rules are confirmed.

A wonderful evening celebrating 51 years of Papua New Guineaโs Independence.
Walshsโ Michael, Stuard and Tim attended the PNG Pre-Independence Celebration at Queensland Parliament House, joining members of the community and local leaders to celebrate PNGโs rich culture and the strong relationship between Papua New Guinea and Australia.
A highlight of the evening was the opportunity to meet Queensland Premier .

Walshs is proud to support this initiative alongside our BNN partners, and we look forward to seeing the successful recipients in Cairns this October.
Congratulations to all the 2026 AOA and AORA ASM Bursary recipients who will attend either the AORA ASM or AOA ASM in October in Cairns.
All bursary recipients will receive complimentary registration, with selected recipients also receiving support towards flights and accommodation.
Nealy 100 applications were received with a final total of 30 successful recipients across seven bursaries including:
- AOA AIDA ASM Bursary
- AOA Trainee ASM Bursary
- AOA AORA ASM Bursary
- BNN AORA ASM Bursary
- Bongiorno Group AORA ASM Bursary
- AOA OWL ASM Bursary
- AOA Rural and Remote ASM Bursary
