🌱 Volunteering at Green Thumb
Our team spent half a day at Green Thumb Farm getting stuck into some jobs ahead of spring. Here’s what we got up to:
🌿 Prepped garden beds with compost, minerals and mulch
🌱 Planted seedlings including basil, squash, silverbeet and zucchini
🍌 Cleared bromeliads and cut back dead banana leaves (chopped up for compost)
🌾 Weeded garden areas
🪵 Mulched the paths with forest mulch

A huge thanks to the Green Thumb crew for the incredible morning tea. Homemade sourdough, muffins, raspberry and walnut brownies and a beautiful charcuterie board, plus tea. We were also gifted a kale bouquet which was a big hit in the office.

Another financial year wrapped up 🗃️ Thank you to our HCQ team for the work, focus and commitment you’ve delivered this year.

The HCQ crew are still going strong on RideWest. They have just entered Day 7 heading from Augathella to Blackall (220 km) 🚴‍♂️

On Day 4 they stopped in Muckadilla at the - a simple but powerful reminder of the mental health conversations this ride helps support through the RFDS Wellbeing Out West program💙
Alumni and previous Director Greg Kelly is also riding in the peloton again this year.

They’ll roll into Blackall later today, and then it’s the final push to Longreach tomorrow. We’re looking forward to cheering them across the finish line 👏

RideWest is underway 🚴‍♂️ The crew have made it to Roma this afternoon after 3 big days in the saddle. They are in for a shorter day tomorrow (only 89km) heading to Mitchell.

HCQ Volunteering 🫶 Eight of our team spent the morning with the incredible crew at lending a hand and learning so much along the way. Their commitment to animal welfare is unmatched, and witnessing it firsthand was something special.
A few things that surprised us:
🐨 There is a koala environment right in our own backyard at Mt Gravatt, and how important these local habitats are for wildlife
🦆 The misconception around euthanasia, RSPCA works closely with many shelters to ensure animals are rehomed whenever possible
🐶 Only 10% of their funding comes from Government support, with the rest relying on donations and fundraising
🐱 They’re filming their second Netflix docuseries… and yes, the kittens we cuddled are stars in the making
