Unexpected expenses are part of running a business. A supplier might increase their prices, equipment might need replacing, or you might have a quieter month than expected. When every dollar coming into the business already has somewhere to go, these surprises can put a lot of pressure on your finances.
Building a financial buffer can give you a little more flexibility when things don’t go according to plan. Start by looking at your regular expenses, your average cash flow and what you could realistically set aside each month. You don’t need to build a huge reserve overnight — even having a plan to create some breathing room can make a difference.
