Important dates for small business owners coming up in July

The ATO advises waiting until late July to actually lodge. This gives your employers, banks, and health funds enough time to report your income and finalize your data, allowing the ATO to pre-fill your information automatically. Income from shares and managed funds is sometimes not pre-filled till late September.

Taxpayers who earn more than a certain amount and don’t have private hospital cover must pay the Medicare levy surcharge, which is between 1 and 1.5 per cent of their income, on top of the 2 per cent Medicare levy all taxpayers pay.
