Missing lodgement or payment deadlines can result in penalties and interest. Don’t forget ATO interest is no longer tax deductible.
Set up reminders for due dates and if you have trouble meeting deadlines consider using a registered BAS or Tax Agent for extra peace of mind.

Now’s a good time to review your business deductions or work related expenses, like home office, vehicle, and equipment expenses. Keep receipts and records to support your claims at tax time.
If you’re not sure whether you can claim it, keep it anyway and check with your tax agent.

We get it, the names don't help!
Here’s a quick breakdown:
👉 Medicare levy = an amount most of us pay (in addition to tax) to help fund Medicare
👉 Medicare levy surcharge = an extra charge you MAY need to pay if:
- you earn above a certain amount, and
- you and your family don't have appropriate private hospital cover.
Both payments are calculated when you lodge your return, so you might see one, or both included in the calculation of your tax payable or refund.
If you have to pay Medicare levy or Medicare levy surcharge or both, the amount you pay depends on your income.

📣 Payday Super is here 📣
From 1 July 2026, Payday Super commenced, which means employers are generally required to pay employees' super at the same time as wages are paid.
Super payments generally must reach an employee's super fund within seven business days, so now is a good opportunity to review your payroll processes and cash flow arrangements to ensure you're meeting your obligations.
If you're unsure how Payday Super affects your business, speak with your accountant, BAS Agent or payroll provider.
