Ever leave a consultation with more questions than you started with?
A lot of tax advice sounds good in the moment but leaves you to piece together what it actually means for your situation. That is not how we approach it.
When you book with Expat US Tax, our specialists walk through your specific circumstances as a US citizen, Green Card holder, or dual national abroad, and you leave knowing exactly what your next steps are, not a list of things to research on your own.

A team that takes care of you. That is the Expat US Tax standard.
What makes Larry's review particularly special is his mention of quarterly estimates for his federal and state obligations. US expat tax is not just a once-a-year filing.
It involves ongoing planning, estimated payments, and staying ahead of both federal and state requirements throughout the year.
At Expat US Tax, we do not just file your returns and disappear. We are here for the full picture, every step of the way.

IRS Notice CP518 is a final reminder that the IRS still has no record of a tax return it believes you were required to file. It does not automatically mean you owe tax, but it does mean the IRS expects you to resolve the missing-return issue.
The IRS updated several CP518 FAQs on March 25, 2026, including guidance for recently filed returns and the use of Form 15103.
If CP518 relates to the 2025 tax return due in 2026, remember that qualifying US citizens and resident aliens living and working abroad generally received an automatic filing extension until June 15, 2026. CP518 can also relate to older tax years, however, so always check the tax year printed on the notice.

What is Form 6251?
Form 6251 is used to calculate whether the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) applies to you. While most taxpayers never need to file it, certain types of income, deductions, investments, and tax benefits can trigger an AMT calculation alongside your regular tax return.
The form starts with information from your regular tax return and applies the AMT rules to determine whether any additional tax is owed. In most cases, tax software or your tax professional completes this calculation automatically once all the relevant information has been entered.

What is Form 6251? It calculates the Alternative Minimum Tax, a parallel system that kicks in only if it results in more tax owed.
