The fastest way to give your business a raise this spring isn’t more sales. It’s plugging the money leaking out from your bank since  you’ve stopped noticing.

1. Cancel. Pull three months of bank statements and highlight every recurring debit order. Software you tried once, tools nobody uses, memberships you forgot. Businesses routinely carry thousands of rands each  month in unused software.

2. Renegotiate. Phone your suppliers, insurer and landlord and ask for better terms. Loyal clients get discounts when they ask and stay silent when they don’t. The worst answer is no.

3. Review margins. Look at each product or service and ask which actually makes money. Most businesses have a line or two quietly draining time and cash. Reprice them or stop them. You don’t have to sell more to earn more.

Stop the leaks in your business

Everyone spring cleans their house. Almost nobody deep cleans the books that decide whether the business survives next year. Three jobs to start.

1. Chase unpaid invoices. Pull your debtors list and go after everything overdue now, before the December slowdown. Money owed is not cash until it’s in your account. Write off the bad debts you will never collect too, because you can claim the VAT back on those.

2. Digitise. Scan every receipt, vendor bill and payroll file into your accounting software. We have software that captures documents and reconcile automatically. No shoebox, no drawers full of papers, no lost claim on audit.

3. Reconcile. Match every line on your bank statement to your bookkeeping. This is where you catch double payments, missing receipts and money that quietly left. If your books and your bank don’t agree, one is lying, and it’s usually the books.

Follow along this month as we spring clean your business.

Missed the provisional tax deadline? Here’s what you need to know. 👇
The provisional tax deadline was 31 August, and if you were required to submit and pay, missing it doesn’t mean you should put it off any longer.

The worst thing you can do now is ignore it.

If you’re a business owner, director, professional in private practice, or anyone earning income where PAYE isn’t fully deducted, it’s important to understand your provisional tax position and get the necessary submission and payment sorted.

At Kainos Chartered Accountants, we can help you:
Review your provisional tax position
Check your estimate
Calculate what should have been paid
Assist with the submission
Help you understand any penalties and interest that may apply
Put a plan in place so you’re better prepared for the next deadline

The deadline has passed. But you can still take action.
If your provisional tax hasn’t been submitted or you’re unsure what to do next, don’t leave it until later.

📩 Send us a DM or book a consultation to get your provisional tax sorted.

Your numbers are more than figures on a spreadsheet.
They tell you where your business is making money, where it’s losing money, what needs attention and where your next opportunity may be.

The goal isn’t simply to have financial information.
It’s to understand it well enough to make better decisions.

What are your numbers telling you today?

I stood in front of a room of business owners this morning and shared with them the truth: your business isn’t struggling because you’re bad at what you do.

It’s struggling because no one ever showed you what your numbers are really saying.
I had the privilege of being the feature speaker at BNI Vision in Ballito today.
I shared the story of why I started Kainos, watching my own parents lose three businesses, not for lack of hard work, but for lack of financial systems.
That’s the gap we close.
We become the finance department for growing businesses that don’t have one. Accounting, SARS, compliance, and a real monthly conversation about what your numbers mean and what to do next.
Because a profitable business isn’t the goal. A business you can build wealth from and leave behind for generations, that’s the goal.
If your numbers feel like a mystery instead of a map, let’s fix that.

Most business owners treat provisional tax as a date. The ones who sleep well treat it as a forecast.

First provisional tax for the 2027 year of assessment is due on 31 August. For a growing company or a private practice, the deadline is the easy part — the estimate is where the thinking happens. Understate your taxable income and you expose yourself to an underestimation penalty. Overstate it and you’ve handed SARS working capital that could have stayed in your business for six months. Neither is a compliance question. Both are business decisions dressed up as a tax form.

A defensible estimate is built like any forecast: actual results to date, a realistic read of the months ahead, and an honest view of what’s still likely to land before year-end. Done properly, the payment is right and the deadline is a formality.

Done at the last minute off stale books, it’s a guess with your money attached.

That is the whole difference between an accountant who files your return and a finance partner who protects your cash. If yours only appears in February, that’s worth a conversation — my discovery call link is in my featured section.

I watched my parents lose three businesses. Not because they didn’t work hard enough — because nobody ever gave them a clear view of their numbers.

That’s the reason Kainos exists. Because most growing business owners aren’t short on effort or ambition. They’re short on visibility. They don’t know their real margin, their debtor days, or what next month’s cash actually looks like — so every big decision ends up being a bit of a guess. And a run of guesses is how good, hardworking businesses quietly get into trouble. I’ve seen it up close, and I decided to build the thing my parents never had.

A finance partner who’s in your corner every month gives you that clarity — so you’re building on facts, not hoping for the best.

If you want that kind of visibility in your business, book a free 30-minute discovery call — link in bio, or send us a DM.
