This relief fund opens on Friday, 3 April 2020 with two distinct and separate assistance programmes for both Formal Sole Proprietors (FSPs) and SMEs. This fund will offer a grant which will only convert into a loan in 12 months. What this means is beneficiaries will have 12 months interest-free with no repayment obligations during this period. The loan will become repayable after 12 months and incur interest at the prime rate according to the media announcements to date.

To assist in distributing the donation, the Oppenheiemers have established the South African Future Trust (SAFT).

This relief fund opens on Friday, 3 April 2020 and is the news on the ground that this fund of approximately R1 billion will represent an interest-free loan for up to 5 years initially only open to SME’s with a R25 million or less turnover that has traded for at least 24 months.
