The stories we tell ourselves shape everything in our relationships, our decisions, and our money.
Over the holidays, my daughter told me I sounded angry when asking my children for help. I immediately got defensive. Later, I reflected.
The real issue wasn’t them. It was the story I was telling myself, that I am alone, unsupported. That my needs don’t matter.
That same kind of story shows up in how I manage money. As a Karoo farmer’s daughter, I grew up with scarcity, uncertainty, and the ever-impending calamity. Those experiences became money stories. Money is scarce. Disaster is imminent. Worry is normal.
Unexamined stories can cost you dearly in your relationships, your decisions, and your peace of mind.
What stories are you telling yourself and what are they costing you?

I’ve never really been that interested in space.
But the recent Artemis II trip around the moon, amid all the chaos on Earth, gave me pause.
Former astronaut Ron Garan describes seeing Earth from space for the first time. The atmosphere appeared as a paper-thin blue halo. No borders. No divisions. Just one planet, shared by all.
He calls it the “overview effect”, a profound cognitive shift. From space, the hierarchy collapses: planet first, society second, economy last.
What if you applied this same view to your own life?
If you looked at your life from space, your financial success would become almost insignificant. What would truly matter? Relationships, health, connection? Without health, wealth means very little.
Perhaps the space metaphor is a reminder to zoom out regularly, to look up from the small details and question the overarching story of our lives.

I’ve learned that stability isn’t built in big moments.
It’s built quietly.
Small rituals.
Daily check-ins.
Moments of intention.
They steady us when the world feels noisy, and move us forward to our desired future.

We often think happiness comes from getting exactly what we pictured. But what if it’s really about learning to love what unfolds?
In her latest blog, reflects on a retired couple whose life looks very different from what they once imagined—and yet, it’s full of contentment. It’s a gentle reminder that the gap between our expectations and reality is where peace (or frustration) often lives.

On this week’s blog, Sunél reflects on legacy—inspired by the Bluebells that unexpectedly filled her garden. Decades ago, someone planted just a few bulbs, and today their quiet act still brings delight.
She writes that legacy isn’t only about money or success, but about the impact we leave on people—the love, kindness, and resilience we pass on. In a divided world, perhaps love is the greatest legacy of all.
What seeds are you planting today?
