The Companies Act allows for three levels of assurance that should be provided by the independent auditor subject to certain thresholds.
The first option is the traditional audit which you as the owner/director of your business should be familiar with.
The second option is an independent review and can be viewed as “audit lite”. There are certain subtle differences between the two engagements, but this is subject to the thresholds mentioned above and may not be available in all cases.
The third option is termed an independent compilation and is similar to an accounting officer's report and is only available to very small companies.
