Tomorrow is the big day, and if you’re self-employed, “Tax Day” means more than just filing a return
Here is your April 15 checklist to avoid those IRS penalties:
1️⃣ File or Extend 2025: If you aren’t ready, file Form 4868 by midnight tomorrow. It stops the 5% “failure-to-file” penalty, which is much pricier than the late payment fee. And remember, you may need to file state return extensions as well
2️⃣ Pay 2026 Q1 Estimates: Even if you extend your 2025 return, your FIRST estimated tax payment for 2026 is due tomorrow
3️⃣ Top off your 2025 IRA: You have until tomorrow to maximize your 2025 contributions ($7k or $8k if 50+). This is one of the best ways to lower your taxable income!
Feeling overwhelmed? That’s exactly why we built Collective. We handle the back office so you can focus on your craft
Context is important👇
In the world of business taxes, a “write-off” isn’t a magic coupon, it’s an ordinary and necessary expense required to run your business
While some things seem like an obvious “yes,” the IRS cares deeply about the how and the why. And even if an expense is deductible, it may not be 100% deductible
