Effective December 31, 2026, Nexus Accounting & Tax Advisors will no longer accept new individual tax preparation clients.

As our firm has evolved, our focus has shifted toward working more closely with businesses through controller services, project accounting, financial operations, and ongoing financial management.

I’m incredibly grateful for every referral, every client, and everyone who has trusted me with their taxes over the years.

As part of this transition, I am currently working toward transferring the tax preparation side of the business to another firm. Additional information will be shared with existing clients as that process moves forward.

This isn’t the end of Nexus… it’s the next chapter.

Did you know you may be able to receive a tax refund even if you owe the IRS?

Most people assume that if they owe the IRS, any refund they receive is automatically gone.

That’s not necessarily the case.

There are circumstances where the IRS may allow a taxpayer experiencing significant financial hardship to receive all or part of their refund instead of having it applied to their tax debt.

There’s a process for requesting this relief… but timing is critical.

If you owe the IRS and you’re expecting a refund next year, this is something you should look into before you file and before your refund is offset.

Don’t wait until the IRS has already taken the refund.

A major acquisition with local roots…

Harvey-based Atkore has agreed to be acquired by global cable manufacturer Prysmian in an all-cash deal valued at approximately $3.8 billion. Shareholders are expected to receive $95 per share, representing about a 30% premium over the company’s recent closing price. (Reuters)

This is another reminder that manufacturing in our region continues to attract major global investment….especially as demand grows for electrical infrastructure supporting AI, data centers, energy, and grid modernization. (Reuters)

Congratulations to the Atkore team on this milestone. It’ll be interesting to watch what this means for jobs, investment, and economic growth in the south suburbs over the coming years.

One of the biggest misconceptions in business is that if a company looks successful, it must be financially healthy.

Revenue is not cash flow.

I've seen businesses with impressive sales, growing customer lists, and strong brand recognition struggle because they lacked the financial visibility needed to manage growth, debt, and cash tlow. In many cases, rapid growth outpaces a company's ability to fund it through operations alone.

Stories like this are always fascinating to me because they remind us how little we actually know from the outside looking in.

I have no opinion on the allegations in this case, and I don’t know the facts beyond what’s been reported. What I do know is that situations like this are a reminder that financial health is often much more complex than the public realizes.

As someone who spends a lot of time inside privately held companies, I’ll definitely be following this one.

⚠️ Heads up, taxpayers…

A client recently received what appeared to be an IRS notice…inside a bubble mailer with an IRS-branded USB thumb drive.

Don’t plug it in.

The IRS generally does not send unsolicited USB drives, and these have been linked to malware scams designed to steal your personal and financial information.

If you receive one…throw up a red flag and report it. Stay safe! 👀
