UAW V-CAP investing in our future
The UAW cannot use union dues to directly support federal candidates and, in an ever-increasing number of states, any candidate for public office. Our only means of monetary support for many labor-friendly candidates is voluntary political contributions from UAW members to UAW V-CAP (our union’s political action fund).
Members can contribute to V-CAP in multiple ways. Many of our contracts have “check off” which allows for direct contribution to V-CAP through payroll deduction. Members and retirees can also give to V-CAP directly with a check. Either way, a modest contribution of $10 a month comes to about 33 cents a day and allows our union to support candidates who support our values.

We must stop the Right-to-Work Campaign
As most of you know by now, the National Right-to-Work Legal Defense Foundation has targeted Michigan. Their strategists believe that if the Foundation can get a Right-to-Work initiative passed in Michigan, a union state, and like Indiana that they can sweep through the rest of the nation with ease.
While we will fight tooth and nail to defeat this anti-worker campaign wherever or whenever it crops up, we believe our best defense is to avoid a battle altogether by keeping this heinous initiative out off the hands of local, statewide and nationally elected officials. To accomplish this task we need all the help we can secure from true trade unionists. We are looking forward to the up coming election in 2012 and we need all boots on the ground we will develop a list of interested and active volunteers to keep the union movement alive. I strongly urge all members of our local to cooperate with us in a collaborating effort to spread the word and help build our V-CAP program. We are looking for individuals who want to protect their income, retirement, and other benefits and defeat this force from the Republican party. We hope to find volunteers within our local to help us as well as the leadership and appointed personnel to help safeguard their union and its membership. We must support candidates that support the working men and women of the UAW.
