Not everyone can be out there running jobs, serving customers, and building something from the ground up... someone has to keep an eye on the numbers, too! 😜

Here's what I bring to the table for the business owners I work with. πŸ‘‰

If that sounds like the kind of bookkeeper you want in your corner, send me a message or book a consultation: kirkbusinesssolutions.com/book-your-free-consultation

Got hit with an underpayment penalty this year? (Or a notice that says you did, which is sometimes just the IRS misapplying a payment...)

If you're a business owner paying estimated taxes, there's a good chance you didn't pay enough during the year to meet one of the IRS safe harbors.

Wait, what's a safe harbor?

It's a minimum amount, based on last year's tax (or what you expect to owe this year), that you pay on time through withholding and estimated payments to help avoid that penalty.

How much is *your* safe harbor?

You can work it out with Form 1040-ES, or send me a message and I'll help you figure it out. πŸ‘‹

Let me paint a picture: it's October and you're deep in holiday planning (and so are your contractors). πŸŽƒ

November rolls around and you're busier than ever. December? Good luck getting a hold of anyone.

Same goes for your contractors. πŸ‘€

It's not that they're ignoring you, everyone just gets busy at the end of the year. So if you wait until December to chase W-9s, you're already behind.

Moral of the story: now is the time to make sure you have a W-9 from every contractor you've paid in 2026. (Even with the new $2,000 1099 threshold, you won't know who crosses it until the year is over.)

Want help keeping this organized year-round? Send me a message.

Here's a story I see play out with business owners all the time. πŸ‘‡

The business has its best year yet. Nobody mentions estimated tax payments. Then the return gets prepared and there's a big balance due, plus a penalty for not paying during the year.

It's stressful, but it's fixable, and it doesn't have to happen twice.

If you had a great year and haven't made any estimated payments, now (not April) is the time to look at it. Send me a message or book a consultation: kirkbusinesssolutions.com/book-your-free-consultation

Listen, I've been known to spend an embarrassing amount of time watching cute animal videos...

But at least I can say my bookkeeping is fully up-to-date; can YOU?! πŸ‘€

If you've got an hour to spend on TikTok, surely you've got 5 minutes to send me your bank statements and let me handle your bookkeeping instead! 😏

Your W-4 isn't a time capsule you open every 10 years. πŸ“¦

It controls how much tax comes out of every paycheck, which means it has a very real effect on what you owe (or get back) in April.

If yours doesn't reflect your current marital status, your dependents, or the side business you started, it's worth a second look before year-end.

This matters for business owners too. If you or your spouse still has a W-2 job, updating that withholding can help cover the tax on your business income.

Not sure where you stand? Send me a message and I can help you figure it out.

Cash flow problems rarely start as emergencies.

They start as small things: checking the bank balance before every bill, a stressful payroll week, customers paying a little slower, the credit card covering routine expenses.

A simple 30-day forecast can show you a tight week before you're in it. Start with today's cash, list what's coming in and going out, and lay it out week by week.
