Who is this person, and what do they actually believe about money and life?

Living longer doesn’t automatically mean living better.

Healthy Aging Month is a reminder that how we age is shaped by more than just time. Staying active, mentally sharp, and socially connected all play a role—and so does the ability to support those lifestyles over time.

Small, consistent habits—both physical and financial—can influence what those years look like.

Anees teaches sunrise yoga three mornings a week, but one of the lessons from the mat may be most useful when life feels uncertain.

There is a mantra I repeat in yoga that is packed with meaning for me: worry-free I am.

While those words are calming, they are not a promise that life will always be calm.

As a yoga instructor, I know the practice is not about eliminating every distraction, discomfort, or unexpected moment. It is about learning how to breathe, return to your foundation, and move with more steadiness when those moments come.

Financial planning can serve a similar purpose.

A good plan cannot remove every unknown from life. But it can give you a steadier place to stand when decisions need to be made.

In yoga, Anees often talks about sending love to the people you care about. In financial planning, that idea becomes surprisingly practical.

When I teaches sunrise yoga three mornings a week, the class is not only about movement. It is also about intention.

One of the ideas I return to week after week is the importance of filling yourself with love, then sending that love outward to the people you care about.

That may sound like something that belongs on the yoga mat, but it has a very real place in financial planning.

Because caring for people is not only emotional. It can also be practical. It can mean getting organized, making thoughtful decisions before they become urgent, and putting protection in place so the people you love are not left with unnecessary confusion or uncertainty.

Over the next decade, women are set to control up to $30 trillion in financial assets. But wage gaps, caregiving responsibilities, and life changes like divorce can all impact long-term outcomes.

Women investors are doing things differently—trading less, thinking long-term, and staying curious. This isn’t about catching up. It’s about moving forward with confidence.

Let’s talk about what’s next.

The way Anees starts three mornings a week says a lot about how he thinks about financial habits.

It may come as a surprise to people who know me as a financial advisor, that I’m also a yoga instructor. I teach sunrise classes every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and I’ve been doing it for years.

That kind of consistency does not happen because every morning feels easy. It happens because the practice has become part of the rhythm of life.

There is something important in that for your financial life.

So much of planning is not dramatic. It is not one perfect decision or one moment where everything suddenly becomes clear. It is the rhythm you build over time, the habits you return to, and the structure that keeps supporting you even when life is busy.

That is why financial habits matter. They reduce the need to constantly restart, rethink, or rely on motivation.

Three mornings a week, Anees teaches yoga before most people have started their day.

One phrase from that practice has a lot to do with how he thinks about money.

Turning 59 isn’t just another birthday. It can be one of the last opportunities to meaningfully boost retirement savings before the focus shifts from accumulating money to using it wisely.

Know where you stand: Benchmarks can help, but your real target depends on spending, health care, Social Security, and lifestyle goals.
Use catch-up options: Higher contribution limits can help late-career savers make the most of peak earning years, especially before retirement begins.

Plan for withdrawals: Staying invested, building a cash buffer, and timing Social Security can all affect how long savings last. Now is the time also to look at required minimum distributions for your tax deferred accounts so you have time to make changes.

See what financial advisors say to review in the years just before retirement:

Age 59 can be a key turning point, when the focus shifts from building savings to planning withdrawals. See how your retirement nest egg compares to others this age.
