Be alert for tax scams. The IRS sends notices and letters via mail only. They won't email, call or contact you through social media.

If you are using Quickbooks 2012 version or earlier, you will need to upgrade by May 31, 2015. Those versions will no longer be supported after that date.

Effective April 18, 2014, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission more than doubled the fines for employers who fail to comply with notice posting requirements. Each violation now carries a $210.00 fine, up from $100.00. You are required to post notices in prominent places for employees, applicants and members.

The IRS doesn't initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information. This includes texts, social media and any type of e-communication. Don't open any attachments. Instead forward them to [email protected].

W2's and 1099's are to be delivered to employees and contractors by January 31st, 2014 for tax year 2013. Call me if you need help.

Beginning July 1, 2013, every employer will be required to file all employer withholding tax returns and payments electronically. This requirement does not change the filing frequency requirements, however, it may change the filing and payment method used. Employers can meet these electronic filing and paying requirements without purchasing tax filing software. They offer several free online services that are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
