With the passage of the stimulus plan, beware of scammers!!! The IRS will not call, text, or email you asking for information (or a payment) to process your stimulus payment. And at this time, no state has offered their version of a stimulus payment. There are scammers who want to take advantage of the circumstances. Don’t let them take advantage of you.
Just announced today—the tax filing deadline has been extended to July 15 for federal returns with no penalty. States have not followed suit yet. Unless they follow the IRS, the deadline will still be April 15, because the federal return has to be done in order to prepare the state return. If you are due a refund, you should file as soon as possible to claim it.
